Plan for Usability Testing

Just give it to me straight!

Preliminary field testing will be conducted in two phases using an observation and a feedback form on the following pages.

  • Phase 1: Three students from my current low intermediate Oral Communication class at Georgia State University will complete a set of five activities (models for the complete set). I will observe them as they work and note any difficulties.

  • Phase 2: Feedback from the initial phase of testing will determine the structure and design of the full set of activities. After considering and incorporating this feedback, three more students (possibly the same ones depending on availability) will be asked to complete the full set of fifteen activities. Any new feedback will be reviewed.

Feedback Form: This form will be used during the usability testing. It will be distributed to students to fill out while they are doing the activities. The feedback will then be reviewed and changes will be implemented accordingly.

Observation Form: This form is intended for use by the teacher/materials developer. While I observe my students doing the activities, I will take notes on problems with the set. These problems may be typographical errors, unclear instructions, pictures that do not load, pictures that are inappropriate, etc.

Feedback Report: This is a brief synopsis of what occurred during usability testing and the effects observations and feedback had on the activity set.
