~Dedicated to my husband John ~

We waded in the ocean together, as the sea foam tickled our feet
And the salty spray misted our face, cooling us from the heat
We walked on the beach in the sunlight, your hand in mine
Pausing for a moment to pick up a shell, a token of our time

Endless miles of beach, spent walking in the sun
Strolling the boardwalk in the afternoons, our days relaxing and fun
The waves washed upon us, as we strided hand in hand
We laughed and played together, and wrote our names in the sand

White billowing clouds alofted, in an everlasting sky of blue
We walked along the shoreline, and revered everything in view
Broken shells glistend upon, shimmering white grains of sand
And all that the sun kissed, turned to copper, bronze, and tan

We watched as the tide rolled in, and took the sand out to sea
All our cares blew into the wind, allowing us to be free
We admired the way that the seagulls, soared in graceful flight
Splashing in the tide in the evening, watching the sunset at night

After the dusk had faded and lost its luminous glow
We picked our sandals up off the beach, for the time had come to go
Listening to the waves crash behind us, after the sun fell
We left our footprints in the sand, and bid the sea farewell
