September Days

When the trees start changing into their crimson gold attire
And the scent of burning leaves, leads to an eve'n bonfire
When dusk falls, and you join in a hayride with your friends
The golden days of September are upon us once again

When the apples green flush, turns to ruby red
And at the dinner table, there's apple butter for the bread
When farmers in the field, reap the barley and the grain
Glory are September days, taking summer's reign

With berries rich and plump, and the nuts ripe and brown
And squirrels dash about, collecting them from ground
When geese start preparing, to fly south in the fall
Take heed --and hear September's call

When twilight steals the sun, and fades into the hours
And gardens are full of chrysanthemum flowers
When days grow cooler, and the nights become fair
The splendid days of September, behold are everywhere.
