My Mother Loved The Autumn
(In Memory Of My Beautiful Mother Sept.10,1937-July 5,2001)
My mother loved the autumn
the way the leaves in all their glory
would change to a plaid quilt
that would blanket the ground
The beautiful harvest colors of
Pumpkin Orange,Golden Yellow,
Crimson Red,Maroon Sunset,
and Cappuccino brown
When the Autumn leaves chime in the air
as they dance before they tire and fall
My mother loved the autumn
her most favorite season of all
My mother loved the autumn
how the scent of pumpkin pie would fill
A new wind crisp and clean
that came with an Indian summer chill
She in her red flannel
would greet this season
with her smile warm and inviting
A time when an apple sun met a harvest moon
to bring about a uniting
My mother loved the autumn
the poetic sounds of mother natures fairies
Of the squirrels hustling on ground
gathering nuts and berries
My mother loved the autumn
the welcoming back of a familiar friend
Her favorite time-before the fall chill
turned into winters wind.
