Mourning Silence~Still (Battle Of Gettysburg)

No tongue can tell, no mind concieve
no pen portray
The horrific sights witnessed that day
A sweltering day in July found one nation divided
amidst turmoil
Where the greatest battle ever fought
took place upon our soil
A war that would find a brother in blue
against a brother in gray
It would leave one standing
the other would perish that day
Noble chargers kneeling in death
a badge of courage they took with pride
Among the acoustic shadows
where the roar of the cannon cried
Men standing in death
wrapped in the arms of sleep
given over to sweet dreams
Pierced by a bullet
that took their life
propped up by the tree on which they leaned
Fallen heroes on horseback
died upon their steed
Death worked its craft
efficently sewing its seed
In windswept strands of golden wheat
The blue would prevail a victory
the gray exhausted in defeat
After the smoke cleared
a welcoming rain came
Healing a blood soak land
washing away the stains
Ghosts of the past walk among this place
where bravery is an unwritten skill
Echoes of yesterday cry
a mourning silence~ still.
