A Traditional Thanksgiving

(Dedicated to my family)
The harvest has been gathered
under a hazy November sky
And we come together as the season ends
to bid Autumn goodbye
To celebrate the fruits of our land
we prepare a bountiful spread
While the annual ritual is taking place
preparing the turkey and bread
The Macy's parade is on the tv
in the family room
As we wait to see Santa in the parade
we watch the floats and balloons
The wonderful scents that tease our senses
from the kitchen arise
And the smells linger throughout the house
of the cakes,puddings,and pies
Soon we gather round the table
all the plates have been set
We say our graces and reminise
of those no longer with us
least we not forget
Our dishes in hand
we circle round the dinner buffet
and fix our turkey plates
Taking some of the mash potatoes,
cranberry sauce,beans,and dates
We settle in our seats
into conversation while eating our dinner
Sharing in the laughter,catching up,
talking about football betting which team will be the winner
After dessert we pack up the leftovers
to give away before our relatives go
We hug them at the door
baring holiday greetings
as a winter wind blows.
