A Soldiers Tale
A soldier sat down beside me
his clothes tattered and tore
He began to reminise about his part in the war
"Son I saw it all
bloody bodies lying in the terrain
Everywhere you looked
innocent lives were being slain
No more blue
but a stimulating red sky
I was even there
when my best friend died
He was a young man
no more than twenty-nine
His life should have been spared
it should have been mine
Instead of making me weak
it made me even tougher
For I fought hard for my friend
my brother
After the war was over
I looked around and wept
As I looked around
there were no towns or villages left
We were courageous, young,
and fought hard to protect you
All we got in return
was a monumental statue."
