Crickets Sing Their Lullaby

Crickets sing their lullaby
"time for slumber morning is nigh"
Fireflies dance under the moon
A mid-summer night in June

The bullfrog croons his rhapsody
"love will never come to thee"
A sonnet so sad the willow weeps
Will they ever succumber to sleep

A widow 'neath a pastey moon
crochets on her web
Knitting a place
to rest her weary head
She races against the twilights gleam
Weaving and stitching every seam

The ladybug stretches her wings and yawns
Waiting for the dusk to give into the dawn.
