11th Feburary I have my first grading tonight :s Am looking forward to it but am nervous too. My aim is to go for orange (I'm currently white) If I have a good day it may well be within my capabilities.

And the results are in- I skipped out on the orange by a whisker and got yellow-3 tags, which I am still extremely pleased with as I felt I was not at my best. And my first experience of a grading? Well, it was a lot easier than I expected- apparently the V's we've been doing in training were verging on purple level so this yellow level one was significantly easier and a lot shorter- barely a minute long. I felt I did ok but could have done better with the throws- I was a bit pants at them, its amazing what just leaves your head when you really need it. The falling was pretty good though, except right sided forward rolling- I just can't get that right- and the locks were reasonable. I was a bit miffed I didn't get to do the headlocks though. I was pleased with my performance in the V- though a couple of attacks went a bit haywire and I threw bottle attacks (naughty naughty!) but overall, gradings are good fun, and challenging. At the next one I'm going to blow myself up just for a laugh- I don't think I put enough effort into this one. :p WOOPEE!!! I'M A YELLOW-3 BELT!!!!!!

3rd March Jitsu last night was.. interesting. Not many people turned up again (reading week I think) so after running through a couple of throws and playing with knives we had a go a nage-waza. I wasn't very good at this- the first guy I was up against took me down in seconds and then sat on me, I couldn't breath and unfortunatly couldn't really tap out either due to limbs being trapped so I sort of nearly suffocated. After I recovered, the same guy took me down again so I curled into a ball thinking "Ah ha! Get me out of this!." What did he do? He just picked me up and hung me upsidedown, seemingly about to drop me on my head. That was surreal, I just rember the world inverting and the panicked screams of "MATTE!!!!!" Against the next guy I apparently did a superb sumi gaeshi, I don't think I've ever actually learnt that throw, I just got thrown, put my legs up and watched Jo go flying over me- reminded me of that bit out the Lion King when Scar goes for the final pounce only to be thrown over the edge by Simba. Yeah, it was just like that. Then I got whacked in the ankle which put me out of action, it did really hurt and it went all floppy for a bit. Luckily we have a rather high proportion of medstudents in our club so I got professionally examined and assured that it was not broken. I even got to use a bandage out the medical kit. Woo hoo!
