HERE IS A SPIRITUALIST JOKE
It is not my intention to offend anyone but this does illustrate the way others can over-do their fanaticism.
The was a very sincere and deeply committed vicar who went sailing one day. His boat overturned and having a strong faith in God, was confident that God would save him. He prayed hard and earnestly for this.
After floating around for a while a fishing boat came along and the skipper shouted to the Vicar
"It must be your lucky day. We were heading into port when one of my crew spotted you in the water. Hang on and we'll throw you a line".
The Vicar shouted back "It's alright. I Don't need any help. God will save me.
The boat turned aroung and headed to port.
Shortly after a second boat came along.
The skipper shouted to the Vicar.
"Don't worry Vicar. We'll soon have you out. Lucky for you our engine broke down and we drifted away from where we were heading and just as we got it fixed we spotted you."
The Vicar shouted back "It's alright I don't need your help. God will save me"
The second boat turned round and headed into port.
Both skippers happened to end up in the Harbour Master's office at the same time and were telling their story about the Vicar in the water. The Harbour Master called the Coastguard who sent a Helicopter out to search. The winchman was lowered and called to the Vicar.
"Hang on Vicar. I'll soon have you out"
The Vicar Called back "Go away. I don't need your help. God will save me"
The helicopter flew around for a while but as they were running low on fuel had to return to base.
The vicar eventually drowned and upon reaching Heaven was welcomed by an angel. The Vicar said
"Although this looks a nice place I 'm suprised to be here. I had so much work I wanted to do on Earth, and I am very disappointed that my prayers were ignored and God let me drown"
The angel replied
"Your prayers were not ignored. We sent two boats and a helicopter. What more did you want?
The moral is that our prayers are not always answered in the way we expect or want, but they are answered in the way that is best for us.
