Enders Game: Orson Scott Card - This is one of my favorite books.   It is set in the future and we are at war with an insect like race. We are losing and the military leaders are trying to psychologically build the worlds greatest military mind. We follow the progress of the boy they have pinned their hopes for survival on. This whole series is GREAT.See this book at Amazon.com or return to fiction.

Speaker for the dead:  Orson Scott Card - The second in the Ender series.   This is centuries in the future for Ender.  He is still around through the wonders of high speed space travel the physics of which is not important to the story (email me if you really care about it).  Ender has started a... not really a religion.., it is people who go to funerals and, after research, speak for the dead person, explaining how they became what they were and what they had hoped to be.   Meanwhile, on the planet he has been called to, another sentient race and a deadly virus have been discovered.  Not as action packed as the first book but every bit as good. See this book at Amazon.com or return to fiction.

Xenocide:  Orson Scott Card - The third and I think best of the Ender series.  As you read this book you wonder how it will all tie in but Card does a masterful job.  It is one of, if not the, best books I have ever read.   It would be to difficult to try to explain the whole plot here but I will give a few major points.  Ender settles on the planet from the second book.  The Galactic rulers decide that the planet is quarantined and needs to be destroyed to prevent the spread of the virus, the life of enders oldest friend (an artificial intelligence) is threatened.  If I tell any more you would beat me.  As I said above, this book is incredible! See this book at Amazon.com or return to fiction.

Different Seasons:   Stephen King - This is some of Kings best writing.  It contains four stories, one for each season.  Several stories in this book have been made into movies:   Apt Pupil (which I did not see), The Shawshank Redemption (a great prison movie), and Stand By Me ( about 4 young friends who take an overnight hike to see a dead body).   Mr. Kings best works are not supernatural in nature (is that an oxymoron?) and these are among his best.See this book at Amazon.com or return to fiction.

The Dilbert Principle:   Scott Adams - This is a "How To" for potential managers.   Highlighted with Dilbert comic strips and emails from fans that illustrate the kind of booger eating morons that are frequently promoted to management positions.  This is one of the funniest books I have ever read. If you don't like or don't understand Dilbert, don't buy the book.See this book at Amazon.com or return to fiction.

Left Behind - A novel of the earths last days: Jerry B. Jenkins, Tim F. LaHaye - This book begins at the "Rapture" when it is prophesized that Christ will take his followers into heaven without dying.  What follows is confusion, wild theories, and for some, conversion to Christianity.  This is a very good story that can almost be considered a future history.  While the interaction between characters are not the best, they are certainly passable.  This series can almost be considered a future history.  I read it in two sittings.See this book at Amazon.com or return to fiction.

Tribulation Force:  Jerry B. Jenkins, Tim F. LaHaye - This second in the Left Behind series two of the main charactors who were converted to Christianity after the rapture end up working closely with the anti-christ as his political power grows.   At the same time, they solidify their newfound family into a group to help promote Christ and his teachings to as many people as possible.  It is just as good as the first book.See this book at Amazon.com or return to fiction.

Nicolae:  Jerry B. Jenkins, Tim F. LaHaye - Here we see the further empowerment of the anti-christ and his forces and see further prophesies come to light.   Once again as good as the first two.See this book at Amazon.com or return to fiction.

Soul Harvest:  Jerry B. Jenkins, Tim F. LaHaye - The fourth in the left behind series.  This is also a good book.  This whole series keeps you wanting to see what happens next.. of course you could always just read the book of revelations.See this book at Amazon.com or return to fiction.

Apollyon:  Jerry B. Jenkins, Tim F. LaHaye - The fifth in the Left behind series.  Another good one.. I can't wait for books six and seven.See this book at Amazon.com or return to fiction.

Assasins:  Jerry B. Jenkins, Tim F. LaHaye - The sixth in the left behind series.  I have not read this yet but you can order it from here.  This whole series keeps you wanting to see what happens next.. of course you could always just read the book of revelations.See this book at Amazon.com or return to fiction.

High Crimes and Misdemeanors:  Ann Coulter - For those of you who actually care about politics, this is a must read.  Ann lays out the case against Clinton and it's ironic parallels with Nixon's problems.  i.e.:  Nixon asked for one FBI file and didn't get it.. Clinton GOT 900 FBI files and a pass from the press.  Nixon asked for an IRS audit on someone and didn't get it.. then was himself audited.  Virtually everyone of  Clinton's accusers and have been audited by an IRS run by his long time buddy, Margaret Milner Richardson.  Anyone who still wants this guy in office after seeing all the facts laid out (and they have not been disputed by the white house.. they just attack the accusers) is obviously blinded by their own stupidity... or is my bias showing?   Don't read this if you love Slick Willy.. it may cause a stroke. See this book at Amazon.com or return to non-fiction.

The Merck Manual - What can you say about the Merck Manual.  It has information on everything you have ever heard of.  It is a valuable resource for the health care professional as well as at home.  It is easy to understand and is truly amazing in it's scope.  See this book at Amazon.com or return to non-fiction.

Acupressure's Potent Points:  Michael Reed Gach - A great guide for self treatment or treatment of others.  This book is set up as a clinical guide, just look up your symptoms and press away.  I have had very good luck both in the physical therapy and massage settings using this book as a guide.See this book at Amazon.com or return to non-fiction.

The Atlas of Human Anatomy:  Netter - This is a great reference book for anyone with a need to know or an interest in human anatomy.  It is broken into body systems and parts i.e.;  Muscles of the foot.  The pictures are very detailed and easy to understand.  See this book at Amazon.com or return to non-fiction.

The Anatomy Coloring Book: Wynn Kapit, Lawrence Elson - This is a great learning tool for anatomy students at any level.  The body is broken into systems and areas allowing the student to focus on the aspects of the body they are studying at the time.   When finished you have your own atlas of the human body (though not quite as detailed.. and they are not associated).  See this book at Amazon.com or return to non-fiction.

The Web That Has No Weaver:   Ted Kaptchuk - This is a great book for learning the basics of Chinese Medicine philosophies and terms.  While it is kind of a dry read at times it is full of information and interspersed with references to clinical studies.  We use it as a text in our massage program.  See this book at Amazon.com or return to non-fiction.
