Computer-based Resources
Disk
A floppy disk (magnetic material) will hold a limited amount of data. About 1.44 Mbytes which is equivalent to 1,600 pages of text.
CD-ROM
CD-ROMs hold 650MB of data, which is equivalent to about 250,000 pages of text or 20,000 medium-resolution images.

On-line Databases
A database that will be networked. These are found through an ISP, a LAN, WAN. These databases are updated centrally so that users can access new data straight away.
One proposal for an on-line database will be the Patient records for all doctor surgerys, pharmacies and hospitals. This will be a quick way to detect an allergy of a patient when taken ill suddenly while on holiday in the country.
Internet on-line database could be:
National Library of Medicine www.nlm.nih.gov

Internet
A web-based resource outside an organisation that the general public can access. A good media to create extra business and advertise a businesss services.
Can also be created by individual that want to share their knowledge or skills
In the following table tick which computer resource is likely to hold that type of information. Consider how much storage space each device can hold and the amount of space the information will require. For example sound file will require larger storage space than a picture file or a text file.
