Poor Mans Service Monitor
The Heart of the poor mans Service Monitor is an Old Alinco Mobile radio that had a bad RF-PA Module.  I Removed it and the Transistor feeding it, then routed some RG-174U coax to the Attenuator Box on the front of the Unit that was built from the ARRL Hand book.  Each Attenuator is a 20-db step.  It will go down to .2 of a Microvolt for a receiver alignment!   The Unit still receives through the rubber ducky antenna seen on the monitor, which feeds the Edge meter that is the discriminator output so frequency setting can also be done.  The toggle switches on the right are for RF generate and Tone Modulation.  The DTMF pad is also wired in for use.  A microphone can be plugged into the jack to the right of the old radio also.

I have used the unit for years to tune up all the repeaters I have built or worked on.  I also use a homemade ISO-T with the unit to align RF duplexers.

Original Radio just covers the entire 2-meter band.  So I use the unit on UHF radios by using the third harmonic generated from the radio.

Built into an old Lunch box it is very handy to take to the repeater sight or just move it around from place to place to check any radios.
Top removed and the Unit is ready for use.
