I would like to start by saying that
unfortunately, none of the screenshots came out so the great Pit
Hare Massacre (to be detailed below) is to remain only in our
memories.
The raid was, overall, a success. 4 of us
arrived in the mines at approximately 9:15 PM. We began our raid and
made our way to the third floor of the Palbourough Mines. At that
time, Kaline arrived and Lord Kennison went down to lead him back to
us as Kaline had no map. That is when trouble began.
While camping out and waiting for Lord
Kennison to return, Zaen saw an old toolbox through the metal bars
that separate so much of Palbourough. He tried to reach through to
grab it, and was attacked with a light elemental spell. We thought
nothing of it, and were attacked by 2 quadavs. I dispatched them,
and turned around to a ghastly sight; a mob of 6-10 quadavs had
gathered around Zaen and by the time I had drawn my sword, he was
dead. They withdrew after they had dispatched of the trespassing
Taru; but we had not seen the last of them. Assessing the situation,
I began to take reconnaissance of what lay where. The Northern
passage through which Zaen was jumped was obviously quite well
guarded. I began to run to the southern passage and found none other
than ZiGhe Boneeater, the head of the Palbourough Mines with 2
bodyguards in tow. Lord Kennison had arrived with Kaline to the
third floor, so I ordered her to run to them while I covered the
withdrawal. Caught up in combat, I found that Serai had taken a
wrong turn and run into the same mob that had defeated Zaen. With
her cry for help I withdrew from combat with ZiGhe and tried
running to her, but I was too late. Anger surged through my body and
I ran, without regard for my own life, into the mob. Fortunately, I
happened to run right by Lord Kennison and Kaline, who granted me
necessary assistance in my fight. The three of us dispatched the mob
of 10 quadavs; all that remained was Boneeater, who had joined up
with them. He fought like no beastmen I had ever seen; using
abilities I had seen only from a paladin and then turning around and
using black magic. At long last, we finished him. Lord Kennison
performed the necessary raises, and we were able to continue without
event through the rest of the raid. On a lighter note, Kaline found
himself the target of anywhere from 10 to 20 pit hares on our way
out; proof that a stray crossbow bolt can be deadly in some cases,
and in others: hilarious.
I was very proud of the way everyone stuck
together and fought together. I was proud to stand beside you. For
the deaths of Zaen and Serai while under my command, I assessed
myself a 1000 gil fine payable to the treasury; though the
situations were dire, I do not feel as though I acted as I should.
But overall, the raid was in fact a success.
Each member left the mines with anywhere from 1000-2000 gil worth of
treasure, and the treasury is reporting high earnings as well.
Secondary to the treasure, I feel, was the
camaraderie I felt throughout the entire raid. Etiquette was
top-notch throughout the entire event, and the self-sacrificing,
noble attitudes of all involved made me proud to call myself your
Lord Knight Defender.
This is the first of many raids that will
occur; with each, we will grow stronger; both in battle prowess and
in spirit. I am honored and humbled that you would serve me and
allow me to serve you. Thank you to everyone who attended.
In the name of Valor and for the KDV,
-Lord
Talrac
