Our Story (part 2)

We had decided that we should just live together for awhile before making any further commitments. But Kylan just couldn't wait any longer and proposed to Dawn on January 6, 2000. It was a spur of the moment thinghe didn't even have a ring for her yet. But he made one out of a twist tie (corny but very sweet) and Dawn wore it until her ring finally arrived a couple of months later. (He had it specially made for her.)

Our next step was meeting the families. The opportunity to travel to Toronto came up in March. Dawn had spring break and Kylan was able to get a couple of days off to make it a long weekend. Kylan admitted to being very nervous about meeting Dawn's family and friends for the first time. Everything went really well though. As anyone who has ever met Kylan knows, he is really easy to get along with. And that's exactly what Dawn's friends thought. There really wasn't any awkwardnessDawn's friends were Kylan's friends from the start. And Dawn's mom seemed to fall in love with Kylan pretty quick too. Of course, she grilled Dawn for as much info about him as possible but, Kylan being Kylan, he told his soon-to-be mother-in-law anything she wanted to know. With almost complete approval on Dawn's side (see note at the end of the entire story), the only thing left was for Dawn to meet Kylan's family.

We travelled down to Memphis at the beginning of May. For some insane reason we had decided to drive. It was the first time that Dawn had actually visited Tennessee...previously, she had only ever driven through it on the way to Florida. The drive down wasn't all that bad, except for the fact that Dawn couldn't get rid of the butterflies in her stomach. Kylan's mom was glad to see them and she welcomed Dawn into the family right away. And Dawn felt at home from the start. Kylan's sister and her husband were cool about things too.

Shortly after getting back from Memphis, Dawn graduated from lawschool and friends and family from Canada travelled to Ohio for the ceremony and celebration. It was then that Kylan and Dawn told everyone that they were engaged. Amazingly, everyone seemed pretty happy about it, even if they were surprised by how quickly it happened. Imagine their even greater surprise when, barely one month later, Kylan and Dawn got married.
