February 11, 2003.

It's hard to believe that the first month of the new year has gone by so quickly. It must be the rapidly changing weather...one day it is below zero fahrenheit and a few days later it is close to fifty degrees! And just when you think you've seen the last of the snow, you get blasted with another storm. My, but it's lovely to live in Ohio!

To help keep my mind off the snowy weather and low temperatures, I have been planning our Disney trip. (Hence the Disney theme on this page.) We plan on flying down to Florida in the fall to spend a week at the house of mouse. I am so unbelievably excited! It has been just over five years since I was last at Disney and Kylan has never been there. We want to do it right so we are creating a budget based on the fact that we will be staying on the grounds, eating at Disney restaurants, and doing a few extras. We are planning to do some things that I have never even done at Disney. We want to see Cirque du Soleil (which has a permanent show at Downtown Disney), go to the Polynesian Luau, hit all of the clubs on Pleasure Island, and, of course, see as much of the four parks as possible. I am looking forward to seeing all of the changes since I was last there. But I am equally excited about seeing Kylan's reaction to everything. I have already finished reading a guidebook about Disney for couples and I have pulled out my old guidebooks and travel journals from Disney trips past.

Not too much going on with us at the moment. Lots of our spare time has been spent shovelling the sidewalk and driveway! One thing we managed to do around the house in January was to paint our upstairs hallway. We used a spicey orange, similar to the color of a wet terra cotta pot. It is such a great change from the boring white walls that we have had since we moved in! And we used a semi-gloss so it reflects the light and doesn't make the small hallway feel even smaller. The choice of color was a combination of what would look nice and what was good feng shui. Because the hallway is in the middle of the second floor, an earthy color was necessary. All feng shui aside, it looks pretty damn good for our first paint job in the house!

Kylan has been enjoying his kung fu classes even more lately. His instructor (Master Weisel) is very encouraging and it looks like he may go up for a test soon. Plus, he has taught class himself a couple of times recently. He looks forward to going to class every week and is just bursting with energy when he comes home. He is really proud of how kung fu has helped him to lose weight, tone up, and increase his flexibility. And I am proud of the way he has dedicated himself to something he truly loves to do.

Later,

D.
