Through The Light of a Candle

Through the light of the candle
I can barely see the room.
The wild flickering flame
Tries to ingnite this dark tomb.

Through the light of the candle
The walls seem covered in glitter.
Light bouncing off the wall
Through small drops of water.

Through the light of the candle
I search for the source.
The droplets sliding down the cold walls
Running its random course.

Through the light of the candle
I feel my way to the door.
One hand pushing the heavy weight
I enter a damp corridor.

Through the light of the candle
I walk in a slow stride.
My arm stretched out in front of me,
The light is my guide.

Through the light of the candle
My eyes begin a frantic search.
The scary sound in front of me
Makes me want to stop and perch.

Through the light of the candle
I see the coarse fur of a rat.
Breathing heavy I watch it scurry for shelter
As if Im a cat.

Through the light of the candle
I again move slowly ahead.
The water flowing beneath my barefeet
Fills me with a cold and sense of dread.

Through the light of the candle
I think Ive found the end.
The corridor is narrowing
And coming to a bend.

Through the light of the candle
Around the corner I cautiously slip.
I see a differernt light ahead
A soft comforting sigh escapes my lips.

Through the light of the candle
The smile forming on my face wants to shout.
Ive made it to the end you see
I pause and blow the candle out.
