| 12. JAMES THOMPSON married MARY JACKSON on apr 25 1779 ,W.Va. Marys mother was Mary HENTHORN daughter of James HENTHORN who died 1776 Martinsburg. The Henthorns were English of royal blood. The children of James and Mary Henthorn were Mary Jackson, Adam, Ann Watson, Elizabeth Watson, James, William , Sarah Collins, Susanah Robb, John. James and Mary Thompson moved from Fayette Co. Pa (to Gurnsey Co. Ohio) about 18_3 and died there 1835 burried at Sen_caville. Their Children were: Robert 1780, Jacob 1781, William 1783, James........, John...., Elijah........ Mary 1792, Abraham 1796, Ann......, Joseph 1803, David 1803, 13. DAVID THOMPSON* born March 4, 1803, Manallen Twp. Fayette Co. Pa. Nov. 7 1822 married RUTH JACKSON, (daughter of HENRY JACKSON 1778-1838. A relative of Gen. T.J. Jackson) born 1799 in Guernsey Co. Ohio. They lived there and in Athens Co. O. until 1840, when they moved to Will Co., Ill. by ox and horse drawn wagons. Taking nine of their ten children. The eldest HANNAH was married to JOHN THOMPSON just before the family left. They lived there till 1844 when they moved to Jasper Co. Mo. taking all the children including RACHEL who had married SAMUEL KILPATRICK. This move was made to find a more healthful climate. Or it may have been to get West as far as possible with safety. In 1849 David with son ISAAC joined a carivan and went to Calif. They had some success and stored their gold under the floor of their shack. One day their partner was sick and did not go to work, and when they returned he was fone and the gold too. After a few years Isaac took up farming near Marysville with some success. David returned about 1866 to Beatrice Neb. and Isaac returned a few years later. In the meantime Ruth had died, (1853) and the family had all left Mo. David died at the Kilpatrick farm 10 miles west form Beatrice Neb. and was buried near by, later moved to Beatrice. Their children were, Hannah, Rachel..........William........Abram.......Isaac... Jacob........ Sarah........Rebecca......Robert....... Margaret...... 14.JACOB DOWNARD THOMPSON, born near Nelsonville Athens Co. Ohio, 7-13-1836 Married MARY ANN GLENN, born April 14, 1842. at Lecompton Kans. 11-8-1860. Jacob died 3-12-1927, Mary died 10-14 1921. Both buried at Edmond Kans. Their children were Alpharetta 12-24-1861, Nellie C. 6-11-1866., Nancy Ellen 12-14-1868, Alexander 4-2-1871 David 6-3-1873, Abram K 5-6-76, Edgar E. 3-24-1879, Robert C. 12-4-1884 This is a very incomplete, and was written only to preserve the early generations, Hope to make a more extensive copy later. | Short Story of the Life of Jacob D.Thompson Jacob Downard Thompson son of David and Ruth Jackson Thompson was born July 13, 1836 at Nelsonville, Athens County, Ohio. In 1841 the family moved to near Kankakee, Ill. where they lived about four years. They went to Southeast Missouri near Carthage in 1844. His mother died about 1853. His father was in California at the time. Durning the next few years he spent sometime with his sister Rebecca Hull, near Ennis and Waco, Texas. At one time he started to Houston for a load of salt but was stopped because of a yellow fever epidemic. He worked in a saw mill part of the time. He came to Lecompton, Kans as to visit his brothers Wm. and Abram. This was just before the opening of the Civil War and Union sympathasizers had to leave Texas and Southwest Missouri. Here he met Mary Ann Glenn the daughter of Alexander and Mary Austin Glenn. He took a government land claim the fall of 1860 six miles west of Alma, Kansas. He married Mary Ann Glenn November 8, 1860 and they went to the claim to live but they were afraid after the war began that the Indians would cause trouble so they went back to Lecompton the summer of 1861 and let the claim go back to the government. ALPHARETTA was born December 24, 1861 near Lecompton, Kansas. In April 1862 they started to Beatrice, Nebraska. They came by the claim and crossed the Kansas River near Manhattan went up the Blue River to Rocky Ford and forded that river. After reaching Nebraska they lived with Jacob's sister Rachel Kilpatrick ten miles west of Beatrice on Cub Creek. That summer he hauled corn from Eastern Nebraska to Western Nebraska. He took a claim near Kilpartricks but before he could file on it a man by the name of Kelly filed on it. Kelly was a friend of the Indians but once when he was away from home the Indians killed him and took two girls from his ranch. Later the Indians returned the girls and through the girls influence the man who returned them was shot. This occured in1864. Durning 1853 Jacob went to Denver, Colo..with freight. At one time he took a load of corn to western Nebraska and left it in storage because he was afraid of the Indians. In November 1863 they went to Lecompton for a visit. The following spring they went to a farm near Hiawatha Kansas. In 1865 they moved to a farm three miles south of Sabatha, Kans. and rented a year then bought a farm four miles south of Sabetha in Brown County. NELLIE C. was born August 11, 1866 on this farm. NANCY ELLEN was born December 14, 1868 in Douglas County. Jacob had gone there to work in partnership with his brother-in-law Gordon Wizer. ALEXANDER was born 4-2-1871 in Brown County DAVID was born June 3, 1873 in Brown County ABRAM KYLE born May 6, 1876 in Brown County The family started to Mitchell County Kansas November 14, 1878 and reached there November 21, 1878. They had two wagons. Jacob drove one and John Clary brother of Lide Clary Thompson the other. They bought a farm a mile west of Glen Elder, Kansas on the south side of the Solomon River.
