Lesson 8
Mandrake
Mandragora officinarum
WARNING: DEADLY / MUST WEAR HEARING PROTECTION!
Mandrake is the common name for members of the plant genus Mandragora belonging to the nightshade family. Their roots, because of their curious bifurcations cause them to have a semblance to the human figure.
The root of the Mandrake plant is a powerful restorative. It is an important part in a lot of antidotes. The Mandrake Restorative Draught returns people who have been transfigured or cursed to their original state.
Always make sure your ears are protected when handling Mandrakes. Wear a pair of tight fitting ear muffs or ear plugs, because the cry of a Mandrake is fatal in humans. Even as a baby, the Mandrake's cry can knock a person out for a long period of time.
