Helleborus niger
WARNING: POISONOUS!
Hellebore is native to the mountainous regions of Central & Southern Europe, Greece and Asia Minor. Its a perrennial, low-growing plant with dark, shining, smooth leaves and flower stalks rising directly from the root.
The parts most often used in Herbology are the rhizomes(roots) that are collected and dried in Autumn. The root has a slight odor, when cut or broken and once dried, the powder causes violent sneezing.
