COMPLY WITH THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE DIVISION AND CLASS OF RACE CARS
BY SIGNING IN TO COMPETE.
***THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS ARE INTENDED AS A GUID FOR THE CONDUCT OF THE
SPORT AND IN NO WAY A GUARANTEE AGAINST INJURY OR DEATH TO A PARTICIPANT,
SPECTATOR OR OFFICAL.
1. All persons must be a KDDA member in order to race. Any
person may join the KDDA as either a driver or pitman. A pitman
may be 14 years of age. Anybody under the age of 18 must sign a release form.
a) Derby drivers who have been a member within the last 5 years are not
permitted to drive in the pitman races.
b) In order to race powder puff, you must be female.
c) In all events and time trials, all drivers must take the green flag under
their own power at the point of the start finish line at the start of the
event, and keep running through the first tire.
2. THE MEMBERSHIP FEES for the 2002 race season are as
follows:

Visiting drivers must purchase current back gate fee for pit pass for 1

depending on the price of insurance for our 2002 racing season.
3. All unclaimed go up for grabs after the March General Meeting.
4. To qualify for the Championship Figure Eight Race, you must win a figure eight race during the season.
5. To qualify for Drivers pay:
A. You must be ready to race at 5:15 P.M.
B. Driver must make one event and time trial.
C. Driver must attend mandatory meetings and cleanups.
D. Driver and pitman must sign in and pay for pit pass at the pit gate or at
the meeting before.
6. Point system will be the same for all three classes:
A. One point will be given for entering each event(heat and figure eight). Two
points will be given for entering the Grand Finale. One point will be given for
each special event that is open to all drivers. No points will be awarded for
winning the special event.
B. Two points will be awarded for winning a heat race or figure eight.
C. Three points will be awarded to the winner of the Grand Finale, two points
for second, and one point for third.
7. Cash awards will be the same for all classes:

*** Drivers who bring out a new car (never raced) will have any prize money won
that night doubled with the exception of finale and pitman sponsor race.

J. Special Event Finales ... $100.00 purse to a max of $1000.00
K. Challenge and Football ... $ 500.00

8. Trophy awards will be the same for all classes:
A. Winning in any event.
B. Second in Finale
C. Third in Finale
D. Getting rolled over (one per car per night)
9. Year end awards will be the same for all classes:
A. First place finish in points $300.00 plus trophy.
B. Second place finish in points $200.00 plus trophy.
C. Third place finish in points $100.00 plus trophy.
D. Fourth through Tenth trophies.
* If there are any ties for place money, it will be combined and they will
split it. If there are any ties for second and third place monies, it will be
combined and split. Third place ties will split the $100.00.
10. The pit gate will be open 1 and a half hours prior to the time trials. NO PIT PASSES WILL BE SOLD AFTER THE PIT GATE CLOSES. The
pit gate will close at 5:15 P.M., before time trials. Any car not in the tech
line at 5:00 P.M. will not race. However, a derby driver or representative may
ask a Board Member for a time extension in cases of getting a car to the track
is the ONLY reason that it will be late. An example of this would be a late
Chico Tow. No other derby cars will be allowed to enter the pits after the gate
is closed. The pit gate will be opened for parts
runs and EMERGENCY VEHICLES ONLY!!!! THIS WILL BE ENFORCED.
11. The tech crew will check for compliance to the rules. The Tech Boss may
recheck cars at any time during the nights racing. Any car found in violation
by the tech boss will not run until the violation is corrected. The tech crew will
start teching at least 1 and a half hours prior to time trials. Cars must ready
to be teched when they arrive at the track. NO
BUILDING CARS AT THE TRACK OR IN THE TECH LINE!!!! IF RE-TECHED AND FOUND IN
VIOLATION, PAY AND POINTS MAY BE REVOKED.
12. All cars must be timed in by its own driver in order to race and qualify
that night. Timing in is required to qualify for points and pay for the race
night. Drivers may race without timing in, but will not receive pay and points
for the race night. X cars will not be timed in unless time permits.
A) Team cars will receive no points, and all pay will go to team captains.
13. All cars must be removed from the Fairgrounds no later than 48 hours
after the nights racing. Any cars left after that time will be towed at owner’s
expense. THIS WILL BE ENFORCED! Drivers pay will be forfeited. The arena
must be cleared that night.
14. No person other than appointed officials will be allowed in the tower. Failure to comply with this rule is grounds for expulsion from the pits for that nights racing. The board may also take actions against drivers for actions by relatives, friends, or pit crew upon investigation.
15. If a member of KDDA should die at the track, his or her number will be frozen forever. If a member is transported to the hospital, he may not race for the rest of the night, or any race after until there is a written release from a physician submitted to the Secretary.
16. Teaming up will be grounds for disqualification for the nights racing, and the next scheduled event. Judges, Officials, and Flag mans decision is final.
17. There will be absolutely no alcohol or
drugs in the pit area, tech line, or on the track. Offenders will be
disqualified for the nights racing. There will be no consumption of alcohol
within one(1) hour of the race night or during the nights racing. Intoxication
is the grounds for members to be disqualified or expelled from the pit area.
Judges and Officials decisions are final. The Board reserves the right to
suspend anyone for violating this rule, from 1 night to 1 year, depending on
severity. The same goes for firearms as well. The Board’s decisions are final.
18. Any member who in the opinion of the Board is found guilty of unsportsman like conduct, drugs, alcohol, or conduct detrimental to the organization, will be suspended for a period not more than a year. After which time he or she may reapply for membership.
19. To qualify for year end points and pay, the member must have a minimum of 5 points.
20. All decisions and voting at meetings involving discussion and voting will be for drivers only unless you are a representative.
21. Personal vehicles, other that Treasurer and Secretary, are not allowed
in the pits, with the exception of the following:
A) Vehicles with torches.
B) Vehicles with fixed winches authorized by the Board.
C) Emergency vehicles that are authorized by the Board.
D) Other vehicles authorized by the Board.
**Note: All vehicles in the pit area are the
responsibility of the owner. The KDDA club will not be responsible for damages
or losses.
22. THERE WILL BE NO CANCELATION OF RACES, DRIVERS WILL RACE RAIN OR SHINE.
23. These rules can only be changed for safety reasons, and only by club vote.
24. Drivers need to wear long pants, coveralls, and at least a short sleeve shirt and suitable shoes.
1. Members will at all times conduct themselves in a good sportsmanlike manner.
2. Any driver has the right to protest any decisions made by judges concerning
that nights racing. All protests are to be submitted as follows:
A) All protests must be made in writing and accompanied with a fee of $10.00.
B) All protests will be reviewed by a three person committee.
C) The protest committee will be composed of one Board Member and a minimum of
two club members.
D) Decisions will be made by club tapes.
E) Protests must be given to a Board member within ½ hour of the race night.
3. All drivers in an event should make contact with other cars when passing for crowd enjoyment.
4. Any unsafe condition such as door, hood, tail gate, or other metal objects that may jeopardize a driver or the crowd, will result in a black or red flag. If a black flag is given for this reason, no loss of pay or points will result.
5. A red flag or lights or siren means stop
you vehicle at once. Failure to do so could result in loss of one lap.
INTENTIONAL MOVEMENT OR DISREGAARD FOR THE RED FLAG OR SIREN WILL AUTOMATICALLY
DISQUALIFY THAT CAR FROM FURTHER COMPETITION IN THAT NIGHTS RACING and could
result in further disciplinary actions up to one year suspensions.
6. Track officials and Board members will not be subject to any abusive or improper language at anytime.
7. The flags are as follows:
GREEN....................START
WHITE....................ONE LAP TO GO
RED.........STOP IMMEDIATELY
BLACK.......DISQUALIFIED
CHECKERED...FINNISH, WINNER DECLARED
8. All cars must remain on the track(stay to side of track and must not block the entrance) until the race has been declared over. Additionally all drivers will remain inside their cars with their helmets and harnesses in use, until the race has been declared over. Drivers will not exit their cars under any circumstances unless they feel they are in imminent danger, or are directed by officials.
9. At all times while on the track, all body parts must be in the car. Helmets and 4 point harnesses must be worn at all times while on the race track. ANSI or DOT approved eye protection is required.
10. Absolutely no smoking in the race cars at any time.
11. Driver door hits should be avoided when possible. It the judges opinion, all intentional or flagrant violations will be reason for disqualification and expulsion from and or further disciplinary action deemed necessary by the Board. Intentional or flagrant will be viewed by the judges as no attempt to avoid contact with the drivers door. Any attempt to pull away, veer off, brake, etc will be viewed as unintentional contact. Judges decision only.
12. Dangerous activities in the pits such as speeding (faster that a walk),
extra riders on the vehicles, unmanned running cars, torches in line, jacks,
lifts, or ramps in the line, or similar activities are reason for disciplinary
actions from warnings, to expulsion from the nights racing. Including the loss
of pay and points, and a $5.00 to $10.00 fine. THIS
WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.
13. In the interest of fair play, a nights racing will be split between two classes for cars. Everybody must have an equal chance to put on the best show for the crowds enjoyment. Car count will be the official’s decision. A third class: Powder Puff big car only will have two races per night.
14. DAMAGES: Repair or payment for repairs of all damages to
walls, fences, gates, or other fairgrounds property will be the responsibility
of the party causing damage.
A) Any private, commercial, or emergency vehicle in the pits is at the owners
risk and responsibility for those vehicles and the occupants of such vehicles.
B) Failure of the parties that caused the damage to assume the responsibility
will result in that party being suspended and not allowed to race or collect
drivers pay until such time that the repair has been approved by the Board, a
fee of $50.00 will be imposed on everyone involved in the damages, the club will
pay any remaining balance.
15. The driver is responsible to the club for all actions of his pit crew for all actions of his/her pit crew for any violations of the clubs rules and regulations. The KDDA does not take any responsibility for any actions made by a club member for violations of State, Federal, or local laws. Constant violations of club rules by the same pit crew is grounds for an inquiry by the club officials with the possibility of disciplinary action being taken against the driver, including warnings, fines, expulsion of the pit crew, suspension, or the chance of having points and pay revoked. No one is allowed on the track except track officials for any reason unless requested by the track boss.
16. All contact will be made while moving in the same direction of the event. No waiting in the corners or infield to ram a passing car.
17. In the event of a car fire, you will be black flagged after two fires in one race. If this repeats in another race, you will be black flagged for the nights racing.
18. Each race will have at least 6 cars for mini cars, and 4 cars for big car, or that race will be eliminated. May be changed at official’s discretion.
19. Unattended vehicles or vehicles that fail to start when called to race MUST go to the rear of the line.
1. Any direction of travel at a speed within the designated area is considered fair play. A real effort must be made to avoid direct impact with the driver’s door. A black flag could be given if in the opinion of the judges the driver’s door hits are deliberate.
2. The 2 minute rule will be in effect for all cars during the finale. All cars will be watched and timed with a stop watch. Anyone not making contact with an active competitor’s vehicle with sufficient force or speed so as to cause the other vehicles to move visibly. Obvious sandbaggers will be black flagged. Violations of these rules will be cause to suspend the driver for that event.
3. Any person who waves off a hit or exits the car is finished for that event, except in case of a fire.
4. The winner of this event is the last car to deliver an aggressive blow to an active competitor.
5. The last four cars in the finale deemed as the winners of the event may be at the discretion of the judges and officials to have vehicle re-teched before awards and money is given.
6. All cars in the finale will display a flag in a conspicuous area visible to all others. At the time a driver declares himself “DEAD” he will lower the flag and not move until the conclusion of the event. Any car with a flag is fair game weather it is moving or not.
7. Any vehicle declared dead by the judge or officials must stop moving at once, failure to do so could be grounds for disqualification from the event and or all of the nights racing including pay and points.
8. A driver may bring a second car just for finale. This car is not required to time in. It must however conform to all equipment rules and it must have a 4”X4” “F” on the signboard to show that it is a finale car only.
9. NO STARTER POWER CONTACT. If caught using starter power only, you will lose any paying place for that event.
10. No intentional pin to win.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY TECH CREW WILL STRICTLY ENFORCE!
1. A driver may race in all classes each night. The classes for the 2002
season are as follows:
A) BIG CAR CLASS: Any car,
truck, may run if it meets the following:
1. Any year of sedan, station wagon, coupe, or ½ to ¾ ton pickup type
automobile is allowed. With the exception with finale with pickups.
2. The vehicle must be of American brand, consist of 6 cylinders or more, and
judged to be safe by the Board at the time of racing. Imperials are allowed to
race ONLY and can not be finaled except for a special event such as an outlaw
race.
3. No 4 wheel drives, panels, convertibles, limos, or Imperial sub-frames, (74
or newer Imps are acceptable for finale), or ambulances are allowed, except
when needed for special events.
B) MINI CAR CLASSES: Any
car may run if it meets the following:
1. Any year of sedan, wagon, or coupe type car is allowed.
2. The vehicle must have a stock 4 cylinder engine.
3. The vehicle must have a curb weight that does not exceed 2800 LBS.
4. The vehicle must conform to all equipment rules.
5. No 4 wheel drive type vehicles allowed. NO
EXCEPTIONS.
C) POWDER PUFF CLASS:
Any big car except for Imperials.
2. All interior glass including windshield must be removed. All lights, side mirrors, light bulbs, hub caps, grills, side chrome, plastic, and pot metal must be removed before being admitted to the track area. Side chrome shall mean anything below the window frame. Door handles are allowed.
3. A protective screen of ½" or smaller mesh must be installed in front of the driver. A car with a sunroof is allowed as long as the opening is securely covered with a ½” or smaller mesh. All trailer hitches and related brackets, reinforcements, and hardware will be completely removed.
4. Approved 4 point harnesses are mandatory. Must be mounted to stock mounts or have a 2” minimum flat washer where it goes through the sheet metal. DO NOT ATTACH TO CROSS PIN OR UPRIGHT!!
5. All doors must be securely fastened by means of a strong metal bar clamp of 3/16” or chained with a bolt. A 3/16” or larger welded chain is permissible. All bolts used for connection chain must have washers. Chains or clamps are not required if the side iron extends the full length of the door.
6. Both front doors must be reinforced with a minimum 8” channel iron of 3/16” thick. The minimum side iron length must extend 6” in front of the front door hinges with a maximum length of 6’ and MUST BE CENTERED ON THE DOOR IN A HORIZONTAL MANNER. No sloping side irons. The iron must be bolted with a minimum of three 3/4” to 1 ½” maximum bolts which extend through the inner panels and degree angle. Concrete or cement may be added to a driver’s door only as long as the top level of the concrete or cement is lower than the lowest portion of the side iron.
7. The front cross brace is MANDATORY. The brace must be installed above the steering column from window post to window post, in the former position of the dash board. It must be made out of a minimum of 2” pipe with 1/8” wall, and it will be securely fastened in position.
8. The rear cross brace must be installed from door inner skin to door inner skin as close to the door posts as possible, and at least ½ the way up from the floor. It must be made of minimum of 2” pipe with plates welded on the ends, and bolted with two ¾” bolts per side. At least two bolts extend through the side irons, effectively connecting the cross brace with the side irons. If the cross brace is collapsed, it will be pinned with a ¾” minimum bolts or welded. No tire irons.
9. All cars must have an upright (vertical) post behind the driver’s seat, made from a minimum of 2” pipe, with a minimum 4”x 4” plate welded on the end. The vertical post will extend from the roof to the cross bar or to the floor, located as close to the seat as possible and attached with a minimum of two 3/8” bolts on each end. Note: If using a 2 piece upright, female end should be above the helmet level, unless upright is solidly pinned. It will be pinned with a ¾” minimum bolt or welded. No tire irons.
10. Trunk lids, tailgates, and hoods must be secured shut with bolts, chains
or welds as follows:
A) Hoods can be bolted or welded a maximum of 6 places other than stock. Bolt
size must be a minimum of 5/8” and a max of 1”. Only 2 bolts in an area on
either side of the radiator can extend through the frame. All bolts must have
washers twice the size of the holes for bolt clearance, but not exceed 6”x 6”.
Bolts must not exceed 4” past car skin.
B) Chains must be a minimum of 3/8" welded type. A bolt no smaller than
3/8” must connect the chains with washers. Larger chains and bolts are
acceptable as long as they are not for reinforcing. Tech crew’s decision.
C) Trunks may be fastened in a maximum of 6 places. You must use either chain,
bolts, or welding. Welding cannot be longer than 5” in each place by 1” flat
plates. Bolts must have washers twice the clearance hole size, but not
exceeding 4”x 6”.
D) Two body bolts may be reinforced on any car in any location so long as the
backing plate is no longer than 4”x 4”.
11. No cooling system other than stock is permitted. Radiators and or fans however can be removed. Expansion tanks must remain in the engine compartment as close to the stock location as possible. Radiator support or radiator attachment will be no stronger than stock. Tech crew decision is final.
12. Transmission coolers, other than stock, if used, must be in the back seat area, below the window level. Transmission coolers and all hoses must be adequately shielded from all drivers. A hole must be cut in the floor to allow for fluid run off or leaks.
13. The make of tires is optional. No dual or chains may be used. All drive tires must be covered half way down the wheel or flaps must be put on. No mag wheel will be permitted unless they are steel. No snow tires or cross cut tires. The horizontal tread will be no more than 5/16”; it will be tested with a 3/8” bolt. All season mud and snow tires are legal. The tech crew will check your spare tires. Non legal spare tires will be removed from the pit area. Violators will lose pay and points and suspended for the night.
14. Batteries must be relocated inside the car. Battery boxes MUST BE MADE OF METAL CONSTRUCTION, FULLY ENCLOSED AND SECURLEY FASTENED to the floor in such a manner that it cannot come loose. All battery boxes must be bolted or strapped in place.
15. Front and rear bumpers may be welded in spots on each side, push in bumpers may be collapsed and welded solid, and no extra metal may be added.
16. No reinforcing is permitted on the rims, frame, struts, etc. When repairing damaged cars, you can not use materials stronger than stock. This will be checked anytime during the nights racing. THE TECH CREWS DECISION IS FINAL.
17. You must have either a air cleaner or suitable flame arrester on you carburetor. A large hole at least 6” diameter must be put in the hood for fire extinguisher access. This hole should not be directly over the air cleaner assembly. It is recommended that 2 holes be cut through the hood, on either side of the engine to facilitate fire extinguisher access. All cars must have and inspection hole in the trunk.
18. No starting fluid or any flammable liquids will be in the car other than the gas tank. No smoking in the car at anytime.
19. A chain or cable must be attached on the front of the car for the tow trucks to get hold of when the car is in need of a tow off the track. The chain or cable must be attached to the frame.
20. No more than a 10" hole for the shifter can be used.
21. No unauthorized objects such as flags are allowed in or on the cars. No profanity, pictures, innuendoes, or items of a sexual nature will be painted on the car. THE TECH CREWS DECISION IS FINAL.
22. No suicide knobs will be allowed.
23. Electrical fuel pumps are optional. If an electric fuel pump is used, it must have an on/off switch. The switch will be positioned so that on is up and off is down. The switch must be centrally located in a visible location. It must be in a yellow square. The on/off position must be clearly marked. There must be a 4”x 4” letter “E” on the signboard on the roof of the car.
24. Cars must have working breaks upon entering the track for time trials. You must have a minimum of two working hydraulic brakes, this will be checked in the tech line.
25. Horns will be disconnected. However, an optional canister type air horn may be installed in a similar fashion as a fire extinguisher. This horn will be used in emergency situations only to alert the judge and officials of an emergency.
26. Car numbers will be on the top side of the car and on the signboard. Numbers will be at least 18” high and the outline of each number will be at least 2” wide. NO SILHOUTED NUMBERS!!! Numbers need to be contrasting colors. STRONGLY SUGGEST BLACK NUMBERS ON WHITE BACKGROUND. If the signboard is unreadable that car will not be permitted to race until it is changed. Please make your numbers clears and readable. Signboards must have minimum of 6” legs horizontally on each side with a minimum of 2 screws, legs no higher than ¼ the height of the signboard. * Optional: The car number may be painted on the doors of the car in a fashion similar to a race car.
27. Signboard codes:
A. Letter "R" needs to be used on cars by first year drivers. Rookies
B. Letter "E" needs to be used on cars with electric fuel pumps.
C. Letter "F" needs to be used on cars that are ONLY used for finale.
D. Letter "X" needs to be used on special event cars only.
E. Letter "T" for team cars only.
F. Letter "P" needs to be used for Powder Puff cars.
28. Motor mounts and transmission mounts may be strengthened with bolts or
welds or chain. Motor straps welded to the frame and bolted to the motor are
allowed. Straps can have a maximum thickness of 1/4” flat bar only. Limited to
straps anywhere. Engine supports may be used as long as its not reinforcing the
frame. Distributor plates if used will be no longer than 6”x 6” and be bolted
to the engine as close to the distributor as possible.
29. A working fire extinguisher must accompany torches into the pits. NO TORCHES IN LINE AT ANYTIME!!!
30. Wheel wells may be trimmed. No shackles or extended shackles or reverse spring shackles will be allowed.
31. All special event cars must comply with the rules of the special event.
32. Anyone caught reinforcing a vehicle for the purpose of cheating will be disqualified from the nights racing and could upon investigation face a suspension from the club for a period not to exceed one year.
33. You must relocate the gas tank to the rear interior area, when this is
done you must put a sizable hole in the stock tank, or totally remove it. A
boat gas tank is recommended as a suitable replacement of the gas tank.
Exception: racing approved fuel cells are allowed and splash shields are not
required for splash proof tanks. Fuel tanks that are of heavy construction and
vent outside of the car. NO THINNER OR PAINT OR
SIMILAR CONTAINERS ARE ALLOWED. Metal splash shield must be
installed between all tanks and drivers. The gas lines and fittings must be
leak proof. No exceptions. Rubber fuel lines located inside the passenger
compartment must run through a second larger hose such as a garden hose to
prevent accidental spillage on the driver incase of a leak. No gravity fed
tanks will be allowed. Stock gas tanks above the rear axle are acceptable. A
hole must be made in the floorboard for fuel run off. REPLACEMENT GAS TANKS MUST BE SOLIDLY MOUNTED.
34. All persons in the pits will have a valid pit pass. Pit passes are good for one person only. Anyone caught with another persons pit pass or one out of date will be in violation of the rules and have disciplinary action taken against them.
35. Stacks 18" from the exhaust port, no flared tips are allowed.
36. There must be a mat covering the distributor hole to prevent fire or foreign debris from getting into the driver compartment.
EQUIPMENT:
1. Minimum of 1 up right and diagonal bar 2" minimum diameter located
behind the driver seat area.
2. Window net or screen.
3. Lap belt, shoulder harness, or 4 point harness, your choice.
4. Stock gas tank preferred, gas cap needs to be secured.
5. Batteries covered with metal boxes only.
6. All doors must be chained, welds are optional in addition to chain.
7. All roll cars must be teched.
COMPETITION:
1. Taking the green flag is considered an attempt at the ramp. Only two
attempts at the ramp.
2. After the first attempt for all cars the announcer will announce the points
and places.
3. Only one driver per car.
1. Any woman may race powder puff, including female drivers.
2. There will be 2 races per night for powder puff in the big car class only.
3. Each powder puff car must have a 4"x4" "P" on the
signboard.
4. Imperials are not allowed in the race.
5. All points accumulated by a powder puff racer will be held separate of all
other race points, however the points will accumulate just as the same as the
other classes.
6. The driver and car rules are the same as the other classes.
