CHASE CAR/EQUIPMENT
Well, I don't have an outside picture on here of my chase car yet, but I do have an interior pic of it. It is a white 2001 Kia Sportage. If you ever see it in action, it will be a little SUV with five antennas with a flashing orange light on top of the vehicle. I have some chase equipment that is very useful when I go chasing. I use all of it when in action. I have two scanners, one CB/Weather Radio, two Ham Radios and a flashing orange light. All are very useful and important for receiving and giving weather information.
The first piece of equipment that I ever got is my Maxon handheld CB/Weather Radio back in 1998. I used to use this to listen to NOAA Weather Radio when I am chasing. I don't use it anymore in the chase vehicle. I retired it along with the 1999 Hyundai that I used to have.
The second piece of equipment that I got is my RadoShack trunktracker scanner. It has a 300 channel memory that is very useful in scanning for frequencies of all kind. I usually try to listen to Ham and police frequencies. Another thing that I have that goes along with this is a book of police frequencies from RadioShack called Police Call. It has rescue, fire fighter, aircraft as well as many other frequencies that can helpwhile stormchasing.
The next piece of equipment that I recieved is my Cobra Soundtracker 29 WX ST CB/Weather Radio. I use this to communicate with stormchaser that aren't able to communicate with Ham Radio and to also warn truckers or anyone else that has a CB of bad weather ahead of them. It is very useful when giving out weather information if no one has no other way of receiving weather info.
Another thing that I have recently recieved are two Yaesu FT-1500 dual-band Ham Radios. They have 175 programmable channels as well as many other features. I use this to communicate with other chasers and with SKYWARN during severe weather.
A very valuable tool that I have is a nine inch TV/VCR that I take to get info from local TV stations.
The last thing that I use during chasing is my orange light. This lets people know who I am and what I am doing. So if you see it behind you, look out.
