Porcelain Veneers

Showing the world your beautiful smile brightens everyone's day. When you smile, you exude happiness and confidence in yourself. For many people, a person's teeth and smile is the first thing they notice about someone. This is true in business and social situations. If you are unhappy with your smile because of some imperfection that you have, you can do something about it. Consider porcelain veneers as an affordable option available to you for repairing:

 Discoloration
 Misshapen teeth
 Gaps between teeth
 Chips
 Broken teeth

Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are made of porcelain which is an extremely durable material. Their color, texture and translucence closely resembles tooth enamel. Porcelain resists staining, does not decay and maintains the natural appearance of your teeth.

Who is a Good Candidate

The best candidate for porcelain veneers has good oral health, wants to improve their appearance, has realistic expectations and is well informed about the procedure. It is important that you discuss your procedure in complete detail with your dentist to determine if porcelain veneers are right for you.

The Consultation

During your initial consultation, you and your dentist will discuss your wishes and what you want to change. All of the options available to you will be explained so that you can make an informed decision. Your dentist will also explain the procedure, the risks involved, cost and anesthesia if it is required.

Your consultation is your opportunity to ask any questions you have. These should include information about the procedure. You should also ask questions about your dentist such as:

 Qualifications
 Experience
 Education
 Before and after photos

The Procedure

There are two different procedures for applying porcelain veneers. An older type of procedure is a two appointment process. During the first appointment, your dentist roughens and shapes your teeth to prepare them for the veneers. Then impressions of your teeth are taken and sent to a dental lab. The second visit involves fitting your veneers to be sure they do not need further shaping and trimming.

Now there is a new technology that allows your dentist to create and place your veneers in one visit. CEREC technology replaces the need to take an impression of your teeth and send them to a lab. The CEREC machine has a laser scanner that measures your teeth and records precise information. The laser sends the information in the form of radio signals to a milling unit.

Your dentist will color a small block of ceramic to match the color of your teeth. Then the milling unit sculpts the ceramic into precisely fitting veneers. The final result is new teeth that are stronger and more attractive than your own. Your veneers will look and function like natural teeth.

Porcelain veneers are a wonderful way to enhance your smile and boost your self-confidence. When you take pride in your smile, you feel more self-assured and confident about your appearance. To learn more about porcelain veneers, please visit the website of Dr. Michael Iott and Associates today.
