Facial Rejuvenation Through Fat Transfer

Volume replacement therapy is one of the latest trends in cosmetic surgery to date.

Facial rejuvenation once focused on ways to treat the skin by tightening and repositioning. Unfortunately, most of the aging process happens because the soft tissues slowly vanish. The bones and fatty tissues of the face begin to dry out and in turn provide less and less support to the skin. This causes drooping and wrinkling to begin taking place. So tightening and repositioning helped with the loose skin, but did nothing for the condition of the tissue.

Now, a technique that replaces the subcutaneous tissue of the face is being used to combat the signs of aging.  Fat transfer is not a brand new technique. But over the years it has been refined to improve the longevity of the transferred fat.

Fat is harvested from areas of the body that contain excess amounts. This is done with tumescent liposuction technology. The fat is then concentrated and purified.

The areas of the face that will receive the transferred fat are anesthetized and then the minute droplets of fat are injected subcutaneously (under the skin). Any fat that is left over is processed and stored in a tissue freezer for later procedures.

Fat transfer procedures can be performed for:

 Lip augmentation
 Filling nasolabial folds
 Filling hollows under the eyes
 Contouring cheekbones and jaw lines
