It usually is characterized by severe throbbing on one or both sides of the head. Other common symptoms of a migraine include: Nausea Vomiting Sensitivity to light Sensitivity to sound Sometimes over-sensitivity to touch Some migraine sufferers experience warning signs before the onset of the headache. These may include visual disturbances, or changes in how things smell or taste. A full blown migraine headache can last anywhere from 4-72 hours and be completely debilitating. How Does Botox Help? Facelift surgery patients who suffer from migraines have in some cases, noticed a significant decrease in the amount of headaches they suffer since their surgery. This prompted surgeons to take a closer look at possible surgery options for migraine sufferers. To determine if a patient is a good candidate for migraine surgery, the surgeon will inject Botox into the surgery area. Botox temporarily paralyzes the muscles believed to trigger migraines. If Botox has been successful, the migraine surgery is performed by making a small incision in the crease of the eyelids. The surgeon then removes most of the muscles used to make frowning expressions. For migraine sufferers, it is believed that these muscles pinch the nearby nerves and trigger the migraine symptoms. Approximately 80% of patients who have responded well to the Botox injections will benefit from the migraine surgery. If you or someone you know suffers from migraine headaches, you may consider consulting a cosmetic surgeon about how Botox may help.
