Is giving plastic surgery an appropriate gift?
Plastic surgery is a personal choice to be made by the individual who chooses to undergo the surgical procedure. It is not uncommon for women to put down different aspects of their own appearance. However, just because she is not necessarily happy with some aspect of her body, it does not mean that she is eager to have someone who�s opinions she values hand her a gift certificate which basically states that she should fix her flaws. Her response could very well be one of tears, hurt and anger. Do not surprise your loved one with a gift of plastic surgery.
On the other hand, if you and your loved one have discussed her desire to undergo some type of cosmetic surgery procedure at length, it is not a bad decision to offer to pay for it should she choose to go ahead with making an appointment. This way, you are not telling her you see flaws in her appearance, you are being supportive of her decision and desire to improve herself and raise her own image of how she looks.
Here are some things to consider.
� The person who will undergo the plastic surgery should be the one to bring up the subject.
� Offer to go with the person to the consultation, but be sure it was their decision to schedule the appointment.
� Be attentive and supportive during the consultation and every other aspect of the surgical procedure before, during and after.
� Offer your time and help while they recover from their elected procedure.
� Help the recipient research the qualifications and background of prospective cosmetic surgeons.
Whether or not plastic surgery may be an appropriate gift to offer a loved one depends on that individual and in the way it is presented. Be involved and be genuinely interested in your loved one�s needs and desires. But, don�t push them towards a decision they may not even be considering seriously.
