Social Security Disability

The Federal Government is required to provide assistance to qualified people with disabilities as long as the disabled person has worked long enough and paid social security taxes. It is important to know your legal rights when it comes to collecting social security disability.

Be sure you obtain copies of all of your medical records relating to your disability claim. Do not turn over your only copies to a case worker. Lost paperwork can be a major hindering factor in your claim. Also, copies of all of your records readily available can be your greatest ally when filing a social security disability claim.

Be sure you respond to all phone calls, letters and notices from your lawyers and social security promptly. If you fail to respond or wait too long, you will hurt your case and give cause for it to drag out longer and longer each time there is a new hold up in the process.

Be sure your attorney and the department of social security are aware that you have other growing concerns for your livelihood that depend on the outcome of your case, such as:
Rent, heat and electricity bills that you cannot pay
Child support obligations which you cannot fulfill
Keeping necessities in your home, such as food and clothing

If you are not assisted in maintaining the fundamental requirements to live a healthy life such as food, clothing and shelter you may also be entitled to reimbursement for these losses as well.

You have a better chance of winning a social security disability case if you have a legal representative and you are entitled to appeal your case if you have been denied benefits. Contact a law firm who knows the ins and outs of social security disability and start working towards claiming what is rightfully yours.
