White Fillings

White fillings or composite fillings are used when the patient has a small cavity and they want the restoration to look natural. White fillings can be made right in the dentist's lab and are placed and completed in just one visit.

How It's Done

Your dentist will numb the area in your mouth to be worked on. Then your tooth will be prepared by removing any decay that is present. The composite is applied to fill the cavity, and once it cures, it will be shaped for fit and comfort and polished.

There is no special technology needed for the placement of white fillings. They were developed as an option to traditional metal fillings and to provide more natural looking fillings for the patient.

Complications

Following receiving a filling, the patient may experience some mild discomfort or tenderness in the area in which the filling was placed. Ibuprophen will usually relieve these symptoms. Any other complications are unlikely aside from possibly needing a minor adjustment to accommodate your bite, or slight sensitivity for the first few days.

Cost and Candidacy

The cost of a white filling generally runs between $250-$650 per tooth. Almost anyone who has a small cavity they need fixed or a small metal filling they want replaced with a composite filling is a good candidate for a white filling.
