(excerpts from the minutes of the newly formed academic council of KCOM that will deal with faculty recruitment - watchmaster)

"Questions:
Do the group of physicians that were on the bad list get to come back and join the faculty? At this point we have replaced them." [With intinerant faculty-wm]

"Faculty Appointments
Nathan Berry, DO has applied for the open position in Anesthesiology department. Dr. Smith had all the paperwork for his consideration. Dr. Smith spoke to the council on his performance as colleague. He did send a document to some Anesthesiologist around the time of the trouble at KCOM. He felt as if he was wrong in doing this and has made every effort to help straighten the matter out with the administration. The council voted on Dr. Berry's contrast (sp?)as 8.5 hour. The vote passed and his contract was renewed."

Dr. Rawlins began by expressing her concern for more clinical faculty. There are several departments that are not full. There are concerns about having enough physicians to teach."

"The issue is money driven."

"Family Medicine and Community Health
We need three new physicians. We do not have anyone working on the 3rd and 4th year curriculum. The issue is money."

...Dr Suttmoeller understands that what he participated in is wrong and that he would take measures to correct things so that he could teach once again. The Academic Council will consider their applications."

Additionally...in another example of "curricular improvement"

"Surgery Course
Dr. Laird came and met with the surgery faculty regarding the surgery lab. They worked together to design a better course for the students this year. There will be no dogs in dog lab this year. The dog lab will use manikins and do new and improved procedures that you see in a surgery rotation every day."
