| This page is dedicated to alumni comments and discussion regarding KCOM. If you wish to participate, send an e-mail for posting. All identities will be kept anonymous. Recent postings: Dear Madam or Sir, This correspondence is in regards to a recent memo I received in the mail from former KCOM clinical faculty regarding the past and present state of KCOM. Last year I received a similar mailing from a student government representative which also portrayed problems at the college, specifically with the administration. At that time I placed several phone calls to Board members who assured me all is well and to ignore any future mailings. I continued, however, to hear “rumors” from medical students that would rotate at my institution, but I felt that things would settle down. I am very troubled by the issues and problems that I have read about in the mailing I received. Having had Jack Bragg and Michael Willman, among others, as faculty and mentors, only further lends credibility to the claims made by former clinical faculty. Though young in my career, I would like to discuss this matter further with any of the clinical faculty involved. Furthermore, I would like to offer my full-fledged support in your endeavors. Please include me on any further mailings and provide me with information regarding any upcoming potential meetings. I will leave my address and number below. How about taking the clinical faculty and establishing a new school (in an urban area)? Isn’t that what they did for UNECOM? You could, more than likely, receive state funding as well. Many alumni (and soon-to-be-alumni) would back you. There is a feeling of distrust and dislike that prevails for the school (stemming from the administration) in some of the more recent graduating classes.(Please keep me anonymous). You can use my comments with or without my name. I have had numerous, though useless discussions with some of the members of KCOM over the past 2 years. I am thoroughly disgusted with the events of the past year. I received a "salvo" from KCOM in reply to your letter. It was a rehash of old events. I feel that the school has suffered enough. In the words of that unique Philadelphia philosopher: Let's cut the crap, it is time to clean house and start over with folks that know what the hell they are doing!!! Please feel free to share my name. Dr's morasco, bragg and pritchard wont remember me, but I do support them. It is a shame to hear what is going on. Please forward this email to Dr. Lemaster. I had a large donation penciled in for this tax year to kcom, but now it will be put in escrow...thanks to you all. To whom it may concern: My name is ( ), D.O. I graduated from KCOM in 19** and am in the process of finishing my training in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. I have recently accepted a position in Nebraska and have had to contact The college to send documentation to obtain a Nebraska license. In the Process of this I was visiting the KCOM website and found it unbelievable that I recognized almost none of the faculty that were now on staff. I couldn't believe that it could change so much in such a short period of time. Today I received a letter from the former faculty sponsoring this website. I read with great interest and fully applaud and support their efforts. While I respect Dr. Kuchera's effort to support the OTM department, he certainly had no place as Dean and no place in trying to direct the clinicaleducation of the students. My third year of clinical training in the classroom at KCOM ( I believe that six months is no longer be offered to the students) was an excellent introduction to my internship and helped me to succeed in both my general surgery and cardiac surgical training. I am proud to be a graduate from KCOM and a DO cardiothoracic surgeon. I do find it appalling that the administration would allow this school's reputation to be damaged in this way and do hope that the Board of Trustees will make plans to remove the President and would ask them to BEG Dr. Sidney Ross to return to the campus along with all the former faculty to allow the healing and restoration to begin. Respectfully, Please feel free to use my email messages, with my name, if it will help in your efforts. Continued success, ( ), DO |
