Education/Starfleet:
Background:
He is the oldest child of terraformers.  He was born on a previously dead world (terraformers won't choose worlds that have any life, even bacteria on them), and like most children on terraforming colonies, was put to work early, for each had to pull their own weight if the terraforming dream was going to happen.

At first, he lived in a domed settlement until the air was made breathable, then he was able to venture outside without protective gear (twenty years after the settlement was founded!), it was there that he found his love of rock climbing.

Star Fleet often sent supplies to the terraformers, and Nate would watch them drop the packages off, and then leave to the great reaches of space, and wanted to go. He liked his life well enough, but he didn't want to spend his life going from one domed settlement to another, so once he graduated from high school (in a class of three) he applied to the Academy.

And didn't get in.  Sorely disappointed, he continued on with the terraformers.  Once the world was completed and ready for "real" settlement, the group left.  They went one way, and Nate went another, for he had reapplied and gotten into the Academy.

The Academy was a whole other ballgame.  But he made it through, and found himself quite bright if not ahead of his peers in engineering (thanks to being a terraformer).  Upon graduation, he took space station posts and starship posts, never staying planetside, and not having any longing to either.
Personality Profile:
Generally the quiet type, but friendly enough.  He likes to just hang out with people who share his interests, or log time in the holodeck rock climbing or deep sea diving. He likes those activities, because they require full concentration on the task at hand, no room for random thoughts or worries. He also plays the saxaphone.
