| Background: Shamek Reed was born of Patrick Reed, a famous journalist, and Tandrika Danrin, a Romulan ambassador on Earth. They had met while he was at the Romulan embassy, covering the trade treaties between Tandrika and UFP officials. His older sister Faith was born 18 months later, in Liverpool, England, and he, two years later. He learned early on that he and Faith had some kind of telepathic and empathic connection, even though they were half-Romulan, not Vulcan. They could feel each others emotions, psychological and physical pain to some degree. They would learn later on that this connection spread to greater distances than they could imagine. However, they could only communicate telepathically on very short distance. He attended the top schools in England, and skipped his 3rd year of elementary, as well as his 2nd year of high school. his parents divorced, when he was 16, claiming irreconcilable differences. Faith decided to stay on Earth, while Shamek went to live with his mother on Romulus. Thus, he was sent by his mother to the Romulan Naval Academy for three years, where he was constantly shunned for being a human hybrid. Other students always called him a human bastard, even though he looked very much like a Romulan and took on his mothers family name. His years at the RNA were fulfilling, but not very happy. He fell into a depression because of this, which his mother ignored. However, he finished in the top 25 of his class. Upon graduation, he served in the Romulan Imperial Guard, something his mother forced him to do, even if she knew full well how he would be treated. He found that he was treated no better than at the Naval Academy, but only worse. His superiors made him do menial jobs, instead of having him do what he really wanted, which was commanding a platoon. This lead him even deeper into his depression, and eventually, he gave his resignation, much to his mothers dismay. He then realized that up to his 20th birthday, he had been doing nothing but his mothers bidding, and he decided to leave Romulus, to go back to Earth with his father and sister. He had a very heated argument about the subject with his mother, but in the end, he left, never to return. He hasnt spoken to his mother since. Upon his return to Earth, he took a few weeks off to work as his fathers editing assistant, until he decided to study in Starfleet, like his sister has done a few years earlier. His father didnt particularly approve his decision, because he risking losing not one, but both his children, but supported him in his decision and his studies, as Shamek became a Starfleet Marine. His depression during those years had disappeared, as his father helped him recover, and he made quite a few friends while in Starfleet. He also met a beautiful Vulcan woman named TShra, and they became romantically linked until their graduation, where it became inevitable that they should part ways. However, they are still very good friends and still keep contact. After his graduation from Starfleet, his was assigned to the USS Napoleon as a Marine XO until being transferred a year later to the USS Merlin to serve as Marine CO. |
