Janessa chose to attend the University of Betazed in Rixx for a career in Diplomacy, choosing that as her major with a double minor in pyschology and empathic art. Through the practice of empathic painting, she was able to fine-tune her senses and her focus as well as engage in an enjoyable activity that has a long history with her people.
Janessa is an only child, raised in a city outlying the capital. When it was discovered that her empathic sense was stronger than her telepathic sense, she chose to pursue studies in their use at the University. She was a "commuter student" of sorts, maintaining a residence at the University during her studies but returning home during vacations.
Her parents, Aria and Jennis, are both strong empaths as well. Aria enjoys painting, though she is more given to singing than painting. Jennis is a man of the earth, and loves to walk around the country, especially at night. Janessa inherited her father's love for the night sky.
Her destined partner, Wyeth Istare, was chosen for her at birth to foster a positive political match between their two Houses. However, the pair chose not to wed, as Janessa was more interested in travel.
Janessa is a positive, engaging individual who is often outgoing, as befits a diplomat. Her sensitivities, however, also give her a quiet streak, one that manifests in intermittent periods of extended study and meditation. She may often be found outside or an area that allows her the closest approximation thereof. Her favorite place on Betazed is a small forest near her family home that shelters a grove of chameleon rose, a flower that is musical in the breeze. She believes that the flower is her birth flower, as its music is carried to the stars by the wind.
Janessa is also open-minded and generous, but is highly intolerant of purposeful ignorance and dishonesty in others. She respects the individual right to choose, but will intercede on the behalf of another from whom that right is taken. She holds people accountable for their actions, be they beneficial or harmful. Thus, she gives credit where credit is due, and gives those who discredit others their due as far as she is capable.
