Anand Vihar, or the Krishnamurti Centre, Badlapur is located at about 7 kms. from Badlapur (West) Railway station and about 65 kms. from Mumbai. The centre was opened on the 1st February 2004 with a newly constructed Hall with library. The Retreat has three twin residential cottages, a dining hall and meditation room.

A few years earlier a small beginning was made. In a relatively unknown village of Rahatoli, a small modest house, originally built  to house an electrical pump, was used for study gatherings and started generating a different kind of energy. Small groups have been gathering here periodically to discuss the teachings of Krishnamurti and people from different walks of life have attended these.

A sense of space is the first thing that strikes the visitors. The stark, barren, overgrazed landscape is the next thing that one observes. The distant hills and one particular hill with a temple are clearly visible from Anand Vihar. One solitary road that winds its way towards the Baarvi dam breaks the pattern of the landscape. An occasional vehicle interrupts the silence, which pervades the atmosphere. Probably a gentle reminder of the terrain one has left behind. For city-tuned eardrums the silence is palpable. It is noticeably strange. They say the city enslaves its citizens stealthily. The pace of life here is distinctly slower. The evenings at Badlapur are magical. The landscape is bathed in the golden yellow of the setting sun and one can sit or walk alone to sense the beauty of the moment. The sound of the breeze and the birds are so refreshing. If you are a lucky you might spot a lone kingfisher sitting still in quiet contemplation.

This project of a retreat-cum study centre was undertaken by J. Krishnamurti Self-Education Society to disseminate Krishnaji’s teachings to those seriously interested in various aspects of human life. Your support, financial and otherwise, could help the Centre grow faster. For details visit http://www.jkses.org/AVR/GivingHelping.php

The Annual Day Program is held on the 2nd Sunday of February (free for the day visitors)

Local Trains are available frequently from the Central Railway Stations at Mumbai, with destinations of Badlapur, Karjat or Khopoli. Anand Vihar is approx. 6 kms. North west of Badlapur Rly Station.

Occasionally a bus may be available opp. the Rly station (West). Ask for the Jambhilghar stop.

One can use a rickshaw (Rickshaw Fare is Rs. 60 to 70/), specifying Boradpada road and then locate the Anand Vihar signpost on the right side after Vrindavan Balak Ashram, next to Paramahans Ashram. This is a furlong before Jambhilghar.

From this spot, towards right a rough by-lane (of a furlong distance) leads to the Anand Vihar retreat centre.

Approaching by Road (from Mumbai)

If coming from Mumbai one can travel along the Eastern Express highway and just before Mulund take the right turn towards Airoli. After crossing Airoli you travel along the road towards Ghansoli railway station and turn left to go towards Kalyan and Shilphata. After Shilphata, travel further and turn right after the toll towards Ambernath MIDC highway.

From here follow the route to Badlapur East and crossover to the west. From this point you need to travel towards Barvi Dam or the Holy Writ School and you will reach Rahtoli. Get to Boradpada Road.

It takes about 1 hr 45 mins to reach from Mumbai in low traffic conditions. If you are coming for the first time contact us for help in reaching the retreat.
