Shopping in Hong Kong

Even Toys R Us has come to Hong Kong. Inside it looks similar to the American Toys R Us, but it's smaller and the words are written in Chinese as well as in English

If you are looking for a good deal, you'll want to shop at the outside markets. Many stalls, set up side-by-side make competition very keen and the prices low. It is very hot and very crowded at the markets, and often there are no price tags on the clothes, toys, or other merchandise. The shopkeeper will tell you a price. You then offer a lower price. After some further bargaining you both agree on a price that will make you both happy.

In this photo, I am shopping for the girls in my class and in the International Club. The shopkeeper was very surprised when I told her I wanted 24 of her beautiful Chinese fans. She had thought I was going to buy just one!

Shopping for the boys was more difficult. I settled on battery-operated fans for them. They are not attractive like the girls', but they sure work well.
