MORE School Activities at Yew Chung International School

Once a week, the children have Design Technology class. This month they have been studying 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes. They designed their own 2-D shapes and are now turning them into 3-D figures using pliable foam.

As with American children, one of the students’ favorite classes is PE. One day a week it is taught by the PE teacher, and the other day it is taught by the classroom teacher. This week, I helped Mr. Faulkner teach the children kickball. They liked this new game and caught on quickly.

Once a week, the class goes to the school library to do research or check out books.

In addition to having a nice selection of books, the library has a spectacular view of Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. The school is actually located on the mainland of China, in an area called Kowloon. The islands, Kowloon, and the New Territories to the north are all part of Hong Kong.

P5 goes to Instructional Technology twice a week. Each student is creating her/his own web page! You can view the web pages for P5 by going to www.ycef.com. This is the school’s website. Scroll down to “Student Section.” After you click on that, click on "Secondary Students." Look for P5. Click on the picture of any of the children in Mr. Faulkner’s class and you will see the child’s own web page. I think they have all done an outstanding job!
