Slow Earth's Rotation
Wouldn't it be grand if we all had 2 extra hours per day to do with whatever we wanted? One could take a nap, do extra homework, hang out with one's friends, or just watch TV, anything under the sun! (no pun intended) Plus, for those environmentalists out there who would say, "Wouldn't that add radiant heat to the Earth's surface because it would be exposed for a longer amount of time?" I say, any person knows that if the Earth is spinning at a constant rate, every hour of daylight is accompanied with one hour of night. Plenty of time for temperatures to balance out!
Furthermore, this extra time can only be used for personal reasons. Only by choice can some one go back to their work for overtime. Everyone wants more free time, why hasn't anyone thought of this before?
The perfect place to mount this ginormous apparatus is obviously Africa. We can put them to work building this thing. It surely will improve Africa's economy. Also, Africa is so huge, it is the only place big enough to build it.
Then with one huge burn of those engines, Earth is slowed down so there are 26 or 27 hours to the day--the particulars will have to be worked out later. Once they have served their purpose, the world can employ the Africans to dismantle it, adding to their economic strength, or leave it there as some kind of monument, remembering the old 24 hour days. Africa is in a win/win situation, so they better hurry up and grab this opportunity while it is hot!
