A Controversy In An Adult Group
So I joined a bunch of adult groups in the past few months. I really don't like the Yahoo Group format but when it's all you got, you make doo.
Apparently there is a conspiracy theory out there that we have fake group members in some of the groups. I don't have any idea if this is true or not. I was sent an email about it today.
How this started was that someone was made a moderator in the group and expected us all to start posting like she wanted us to so she wouldn't have to read all the messages and they all wouldn't fill up her email. Of course, if you don't want your email to fill up you set your prefs to "Daily Digest". Apparently that was too hard for her. Fine, but don't expect people to start posting the way you say just because you became a moderator.
Anyway, a big controversy on censorship started. I personally think any moderation of simple and innocuous posts which are not breaking rules shouldn't be a problem. But then what do I know?
I posted a comment that I had agreed with everyone up to that point and someone came on and started kissing major moderator butt in response to my post. And it appeared the controversy ended. But it had not. A post from another person had apparently been deleted and they seem to think it's the secret censors from the FBI. I think it's just bitchass moderators, moderating so they could stop the controversy. Well within in their rights? Yes. But cool it's not.

We will no doubt be banned by the censors and vilified for pointing that out.
Today OUR speech is not as free as the censors speech.
Our speech will not be part of the public record.
When will it be YOURS?
What about the others who were censored and didnt stand up like us?

How many will there be?
When will they censor you?
You don't know.
You CAN'T know.
That is the point of secret censorship.
Secret censorship is ALWAYS acceptable to the censors.
Unless YOU speak up everyone thinks it is acceptable to you.

Well I've heard about this... It's a common thing in LA in the porn scene and I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't showing up around here. We have plenty of people who dabble in both scenes.

I read The Stranger, and I haven't seen anything about this at all. I'll be Googling this... Personally I could give a rats ass about them. Let them go to Tulsa.

Like what? The FBI is everywhere. DHS is everywhere. We are more terrorized by the Wars on Sexuality and Pornography than we are by Al Qaeda. In fact I don't know who's scarier. The Fundamentalist Christians or the Fundamentalist Muslims. However, I don't think we need to worry about the FBI infiltrating our groups unless they are looking for dogfuckers and babyrapers. Which is fine with me. And yes, I know the FBI decided that Golden Showers, Menstruation Sex, Scat and BDSM are obscene. Says who? Gross, maybe. But who are they to say it shouldn't be depicted? Oh, yeah that's right. They are the government.
I took a few journalism classes (ok more than a few) and one of the things you always need to do is source everything. If you can't back up your shit, it's not worth a shit.
So, I don't think Yahoo groups have too much to worry about. And if we are that worried, we could move all the groups over to Google. They still love America and it's freedoms.

WOW, I read your blog and your right, we are in a group and i sent out an e-mail to the whole group and it was never sent out, it has to be approved. Yes i sent an e-mail to the people that think they are in charge with no response. well i say that if you want dont want input on something you say or put on the internet then dont do it. and as for the FBI, it's a tad to late to try to fix the fuck ups done by the Goverment. JUst because the FBI thinks that somethings are obsene dosent mean we all do and your right it may be Gross to some but other think " hell yeah"lol smooches sha see ya in the chat room

Except that all messages are approved automatically unless someone has it set to moderate. Sometimes they do get lost in the ether (I've had this happen in my private and well moderated groups). I say that either it was ethered, or they don't get approved.
