ELECTIONS:  Be sure to attend this June meeting.  We have nominations and election of new officers.  Contact any of the trustees if you would like to run for an office, if you have any nominations.

VOCATIONS:  The Iowa State Knights of Columbus is one of the leaders in supporting vocations.  At the state convention we donated the money from the monthly raffle which was about $300 for Pennies for Heaven.  We have also pledged $100 as our annual contribution to the Vocations Fund.  All of this money goes to vocations in Iowa.

SUMMERTIME!  SUMMERTIME!  It continues to be a busy time.  Ball games - ball games - and more ball games!  Be sure to support the local team - whether they are the little league or the high school.  Good sportsmanship must be shown at all times.

STAR SPANGLED SPECTACULAR:  Preparations are in progress for this event.  Everyone's help will be appreciated - funnel cakes, parade, and other activities.

SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT:  The State Softball Tournament is being held July 18 - 20.  If you want to go, please give Thayne Benz a call at 732-5753.

COLUMBUS CLUB/3rd DEGREE BOARD ISSUE:  At our June meeting, the members will be called upon to address a resolution to be presented by the 3rd Degree Officers which would prohibit 3rd Degree officers from sitting on the Columbus Club Board.  The Columbus Club does oppose this resolution.  The matter will be brought for discussion and voted upon on June 9.

DEPUTY GRAND KNIGHT:  We are still looking for a person to fill the Deputy Grand Knight position.  Please step forward.  This position does not entail very much work for the first two years.  Generally speaking, the Deputy Grand Knight steps into the Grand Knight position in the next two years and, while this position is somewhat involved, we have done some things to relieve the Grand Knight of certain duties.  The building maintenance duties are largely carried out by the Columbus Club.  Most of the existing programs will be handled by the program chairmen.  Also, we will have a program director to assist the Grand Knight in the future.  So, this is not that intimidating of a position.  Please consider whether you can step forward for the better of the Council.

Your continued cooperation in all of our projects is appreciated.  This is what makes our council so strong and visible.  Keep up the good work!

Fraternally, John Murray, Grand Knight
