Dear Families,

I am excited to work with your child this year and look forward to meeting my students and their families! Thank you for entrusting them into my care each day. These long pages of reading J introduce me to you and give you a little information about how my classroom works.

I am originally from Elmira, New York and in May 1998, I graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo. I majored in Elementary and Special Education with a minor in Mathematics. Last summer, I graduated with my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Elon University. This was a proud accomplishment!

I have enjoyed eight fabulous years teaching third grade at Hillcrest while participating in school and community activities. A special moment came in 2002 when I was selected the Alamance-Burlington Teacher of the Year. I was humbled and honored to represent so many wonderful teachers. This past year I was notified I am one of three state-finalists in North Carolina for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching.

In college, I played varsity women’s lacrosse for three years as the goalie. Now in Burlington, I play softball in the local woman’s recreation league. I love to play and watch sports. You may even see me at your child’s game!

My graduate program involved extensive use of technology and I have begun to see many wonderful opportunities for your children. I have created a web page for our class that includes what we will learn, homework help, and classroom information. The magnet states the web site, but you may also access it through the Hillcrest website under my name. I hope you check it out throughout the year as I will try to keep it current!

This summer was quite busy, but nice to not have classes! I did get a few weekends away at the lake (Hyco Lake, NC and Canandaigua Lake, NY) enjoying water skiing, boating, and of course Jet Ski rides.

I look forward to a wonderful year with great families!

                                                                              With much appreciation,

                                                                             Miss Karen Caroscio J
