GENERAL INFORMATION:

In order to establish and maintain communication links between home and school, our class continues to use a successful system with the “OTIS”. The acronym “OTIS” stands for “Organize This Important Stuff.” OTIS is a 2-inch, 3-ringed binder with labeled tabs. Each section serves a distinct purpose. The following categories explain the contents of the OTIS.

OTIS

STUDENT PLANNER:

The student planner is located in the front of each OTIS. The planner is used to write down daily homework. It is also intended for use as a communication link between teacher and parent.  The planner is checked each morning for any messages about homework, as well as a signature from a parent or guardian indicating that homework was completed.

To Be Corrected or Completed (TBC):

Any work that a student needs to correct or complete will be placed behind this tab. These papers will be marked with the letters “TBC.” When finished, these papers can go behind the homework tab.

TIMED TESTS:

This section is for timed quizzes (Mad Minutes) in math.

NOTES FOR HOME:

You will find notes from the school, community, Central Office, and me. You may use this section for notes concerning any schedule changes for your child. Field trip information, book orders or excuses concerning any absences should be placed in this section or in the front pocket.

PLEASE EMPTY DAILY!!!

HOMEWORK:

Homework papers will be placed behind this tab. After completing the work, students return it to this tab, ready for handing in on the following day.

Text Box: BUILDING RESPONSIBILITY:
It is my hope that through the use of OTIS, communication between home and school will be improved. This notebook helps your child become more responsible as they take control of their assignments each day. Third graders copy the homework from the board and file their work! Students may need help organizing their paperwork. Please look through the OTIS nightly with your child.

MATH, READING, SPELLING,

SCIENCE and SOCIAL STUDIES:

Behind each of these tabs will be that subjects’ work. Feel free to look through these papers, but please do not remove any paperwork from these sections!!!

Spiral Notebook

This notebook is part of the take home reading program for 3rd graders. Information to follow!

Text Box: I have found that students are more successful when they are organized. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask. Thank you for your help! --Miss Caroscio J
