Accelerated Reading Program
Accelerated Reading Challenges This year we have organized a competition between primary homerooms and intermediate homerooms that will encourage and motivate our students to read and use the Accelerated Reading Program. For each round of competition there will be one winner at each of the following levels: **Kindergarten **1st/2nd grades **3rd/4th grades **5th grade Ground Rules: 1. Students earn points for their homeroom by reading AR books and taking the tests. Students must score 80% or better on the test for points to count. 2. Each student must contribute to the homeroom's total score in order to participate in the winning celebration. This will keep students who do not participate from getting rewarded and allow ALL homerooms to be eligible no matter who participates. ***Minimum score for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades will be 3 points per student per challenge. ***Minimum score for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will be 6 points per student per challenge. Mrs. Carnes will be responsible for keeping track of the points and the cafeteria display showing the progress of each homeroom. Any questions may be directed to: E-mail: [email protected] or Telephone: 356-2155 Ext. 5034
What is Accelerated Reading? Accelerated Reading is a reading program that provides computerized tests on a variety of books available at our library and the public library. The program tests a student's comprehension of the book he/she just read. The program is a tool that helps teachers monitor the growth of students as readers. When Can a Student Take a Test? 1. Students may take tests in their classrooms at the appropriate designated times. 2. Students may take tests in Homework Helpers (see the Homework Helpers Link for dates and times).
