Here's a shot of the pride of the casa. Our Philips television.
So, in the Winter of 2003 we drove down to Delaware, home of tax free shopping, and bought ourselves a big ol' Widescreen HDTV and bootlegged it across the PA border. Luckily Delaware is only about 40 min away, so it was no big feat. It was a feat however getting this TV into the house. Since the homecoming of the TV and the installation of the HD Digital cable, our lives have not quite been the same. Record books may be broken as we stare into the eye of the beast, day after day.
Check out our favorite shows below.
OUR FAVORITE SHOWS
1. Lost - does anyone know what is going on here?? We have been watching since the beginning and every week the plot thickens. Mike thinks the pregnant girl (Claire) will name her (yet to be born) baby Alex (wrong). And what's up with the crazy french lady?? The other week we discovered that there's a squatter among the survivors, go figure- he's Canadian!!! Anyway- the squatter kidnaps Claire and Charley and kicks Dr. Jacks' keester. Since the show was pre-empted or re-run for like a month and it's now finally back on, maybe there will be some action!! So some people die, Locke wants to blow up the hatch and we find out there's "Others" on the island. In the season finale they kidnap Walt, but what is going to happen next??? And what do the numbers mean??? And what is down the hatch chute??? Season 2 so far has been exciting- we have learned that Desmond lives in the hatch and is part of the Dharma Initiative, which is some sort of research project. We know that there are other people on the island, but are they the "others" or just the other people from the flight? Well, it turns out it's both, now we are going to learn about what happened to the other half of the plane. If you are not watching this show, there is something seriously wrong with you. It's SO GOOD!
2. Desperate Housewives - another show with twists and turns. I got Mike hooked on it after the red-head (Bree) showed off her goodies under the fur coat in Season 1. Mike wanted to know if I would do that- and I said- "if you buy me a fur- game on." No fur yet... Season 2 so far has been not as good, I'm still waiting for something to happen, but it's kind of dragging on right now.
3. American Casino - (Discovery Channel) It's like The Casino (see below), but still on the air, and it's about the inns and outs of a Casino- Green Valley Ranch in the lovely suburbs of Vegas. It's pretty funny because just watching it, you'd wonder how they stay in business, but we payed the Ranch a visit in December 2004 and were quite impressed. We joined the slot club in hopes of getting e-mail from "Shamu" Shad or David "JC1K". This is a great show, and I would definately stay at GVR in a future to Vegas. I don't know if it's still showing new episodes, but I see it on the air from time to time.
4. DOG- The Bounty Hunter - (A&E) This is NOT my favorite show, but Mike LOVES it. The premise is Duane "DOG" Chapmann and his family run a bail bonds company in Hawaii and they apprehend "fugitives" who have jumpped their bail. I think Mike really watches it because Dog's wife Beth has the biggest boobs on earth. Mike's favorite line from the show is when Dog is going to get a "fugitive" and wants to do it without mace or other detainment apparatus'-and says "we're gonna do it Hawaiian style- skin on skin!" I'll just say that this show is an experience, and I hope I never get arrested in Hawaii.
5. The Office (NBC)- I think this is the ONLY good show on NBC these days. Mike loves it, I like it. You have to have a certain sense of humor to enjoy a show like this. Steve Carrell is hilarious, and the fact that it takes place in Scranton, PA is even better. Maybe I can work for Dunder Mifflin after I leave Moore Wallace. Anyone who works in an office (especially in sales)will love this show.
MY TRIED AND TRUE
1. CSI (CBS)- any of them (maybe not so much CSI:NY). I prefer the original CSI, c'mon it's in Las Vegas...at night! Plus Grissom is the original Crime Scene Investigator. I am growing on CSI Miami, only because Horatio Caine (David Caruso) never seems to talk directly at anyone. He's always turned slightly to the side and then he removes the Oakley sunglasses and Kabam!- looks at the perp and solves the case. I vote for the ultimate showdown- Grissom vs. Caine, winner takes all!
2. Law and Order (NBC) - I think at one point there were like 4 spin- offs, and they all start to mush together in my head after a while, but I learn all my legal jargon from this show. I really only watch SVU and the Original these days. Tutuola (Ice-T) is one bad mo-fo and that Stabler (Chris Meloni) is a loose cannon, especially since his wife left him. I especially wouldn't want to cross paths with Green (Jesse L. Martin) when he's "undercover" as a drug dealer or gunslinger. Plus the addition of Fontana (Dennis Farina) as his partner this season is nice change from Lenny Briscoe (Jerry Orbach). I see him and think of Dirty Dancing, not a cop. Unfortunately he passed away, so there will be no Briscoe/Green renuinon to be had.
WHERE'D THEY GO??
1. The Casino (FOX)- Where else can you see bumbling wanna be casino host Tommy get drunk with a client and puke on the street? (we actually saw him on our most recent trip to Vegas) Hopefully when we go to Vegas in 3 weeks we'll meet the elusive owners Tom and Tom at the Nugget. (Didn't happen) My biggest disappointment was learning that Matt Dusk was hired FOR THE SHOW. He was not the "working-my-way-to-the-top, lounge-singer-stuck-in-a-resaurant" kinda guy. He auditioned for that role for the show. Every week I was cheering for Matt to get his big break in the Ballroom. I even bought the CD (it's awful) but when I found out how I had been led on, I shut the book on Dusk! I have just one question for you Dusk- is everything really hip at the nug-get??
GUILTY PLEASURES
1. Taste of America (Travel Channel)- This is a very fun show, mostly because Beau Diamond is the Production Manager and I learn the little secrets of the show. Basically, Mark DeCarlo (remember the tv show Studs?) goes around the US and eats different stuff, makes fun of people and wears really bad clothes. Check it out- not only because it's good, but becasue I want Beau to stay employed.
2. Unwrapped (Food Network)- Host Marc Summers tells you all about how different goodies are made. I think I have seen each episode about 3 times, but it's still fun to watch. I think my dream job is to work at a candy factory. I LOVE candy. Mike loves chocolate, but I love stupid stuff like Nerds and Laffy Taffy.
3. Las Vegas (NBC)- I can't believe I still watch this show. It's awful, but I can't help myself! Danny McCoy is a smooth cat, but he's not fooling me. If only the montecito were real and not super imposed on top of McCarren Airport.
