Live Scanner feed
As of 12/31/08 I have a scanner feed up again. A few years ago I had a scanner feed up for a short time. I think I got kicked off due to too high of a bit rate. Since then I have learned more about bit rates, bandwidth and such.
Click on the radio icon at the right to bring up the feed. It's in MP3 format to allow a variety of media players to play it. Previously I used Winamp's proprietary format (.nsv?) which required Winamp to play it. So far it works fine with Winamp, Windows Media player and Quicktime. The "Server Status" link displays current status, such as whether or not it is up, how long it's been up, etc. Check it in case you have trouble connecting. I've limited the number of available streams to 10 and the bit rate to either 24 or 32 kbps for now. That could change with usage.
The source is an Icom T2H 2 meter handheld sitting on the upper shelf of my computer desk. It has a few local (Lawrence, KS) repeater and simplex frequencies programmed, no public service or buisness band frequiencies. At some point I plan to use a multi band radio or a scanner with decent audio to cover more bands/frequencies. But for now the T2H is convenient for several reasons. It can be plugged in to a wall charger all day without being over charged, or even getting warm. It can operate on the charger alone, no battery. It also will remain on while unplugging the charger with the battery installed, or while changing batteries with the charger plugged in. Sort of an "Always On" capability. I don't think any of my other handhelds will do that, safely.
