Pond Overview

The pond was started in July, 1999. Size - 8ft x 4ft. The pond is about 2½ feet deep in the center trench and has a marginal shelf 6 ins deep around the perimeter. A flexible liner was used and the rocks were brought in from a local quarry.

There are currently a number of Comets, including a white one, 3 Shubunkins and 1 Sarassa living in the pond.  I am happy to say that they survived winter, so far, in the ice covered water. I used a small aquarium compressor and an air stone running constantly to keep a hole open in the ice.

The Hardy Water Lilly and the marginal plants were locally purchased and are flourishing.  I also buy floating Water Hyacinths each summer for that added tropical look and to help fill in the open water.

I installed a 1250gal per hour pump with an underwater external filter attached. I spent a lot of time adjusting the look of the waterfall and I think I'm finally happy with the version pictured on the right....maybe.
