Objective: To demonstrate understanding of the unique characteristics of the selected Spanish speaking country
Task: You will present basic statistics and related information about your country which will be displayed in an album depicting your life, family, traditions and customs relative to the country you are researching. The project will be written in SPANISH!
THIS PROJECT IS WORTH 100 POINTS! NO LATE PROJECTS WILL BE ACCEPTED. YOU WILL RECEIVE AN AUTOMATIC ZER0 (0) FOR ANY SECTION NOT SUBMITTED ON OR BEFORE THE DATES LISTED HERE!!
Your report must include the following information within your "album":
1. Map with capital, major cities, rivers, mountains, and other geographical characteristics, with bordering countries, bodies of water identified and labeled in SPANISH. This should be a hand drawn (not computer generated) map. 8 1/2" x 11"
2. Picture or illustration of monetary unit and its approximate worth in American dollars.
3. Various photos (magazines, computer) depicting your city/country, industry, agriculture, traditions, food etc. with a description in Spanish
4. Flag (in color) 8 1/2" x 11". the name of the country will be neatly printed in the lower right-hand corner
5. Major religion of the country
6. Important fiestas celebrated in the country
7. National foods (include recipes), dances, pasttimes of the country
8. Major industrial/agricultural products of the country
9. Early history of the country before the arrival of Spanish: this should include information about the people living in the region before the arrival of the Spanish
10. Date of independence of the country, including the year
11. Artists and their works
12. Literary contributions made by individuals in the country (cite authors and their works)
13. Musical contributions made by individuals in the country (cite composers and the work)
14. Literacy rate in the country
15. Climate: rainy season/ dry season, varying temperatures etc.
16. Information on government: first president/dictator, present day leader
SOURCES OF RESEARCH
A minimum of FOUR (4) sources must be used and cited, with only one of these an encyclopedia. If the internet is used, please include the URL.
Some suggested sources: Travel magazines, National Geographic, Guide to Periodical Literature
An excellent site on WWW: www.worldculture.com has many links and includes information on all countries. Also consult any search engine like YAHOO, INFOSEEK, ALTAVISTA, EXCITE, HOTBOT etc and you will find a wealth of information. Write to the embassy/consulate/tourist information office of your country and request information--THIS MUST BE DONE IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!! Some countries even have 1-800 phone numbers. I will have these addresses and some phone numbers available to you
The first draft of your report will be written in Spanish and will be due on--- This draft MUST include the following information: name, location of country, information about you and your family--how you make a living, where you live, your house, climate, geographical features of country and city where you reside, monetary unit and your country's early history. THIS DRAFT WILL COUNT AS A 50 POINT TEST GRADE!!!!!!!!!! NO LATE PAPERS WILL BE ACCEPTED. NONE!!!!!!!!!!!! ZERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The second draft will be due on --- THIS DRAFT WILL ALSO COUNT AS 50 POINTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO LATE PAPERS WILL BE ACCEPTED!!!!! NONE!!!!! This draft must include the rest of the information as outlined above. At this point, your report will be done in rough draft. You will be responsible for putting it into the FINAL draft form. BOTH OF THE ROUGH DRAFTS MUST BE TURNED IN WITH THE FINAL AND FINISHED COPY!!!!!
THE FINAL COPY must be type written double spaced. All resources must be cited on the final page, to include names of books used, authors, pages researched, URLs in complete forms. The appearance of your report, whether it be in an album, folder etc, is entirely up to you. USE YOUR IMAGINATION AND HAVE FUN WITH IT!!!!!
