The most strangest, interesting and neat thing happened to me today. I was sitting here at the computer, and I opened all the back doors that go out on to the deck, and we have a walkout basement with the double french doors, and I had opened both of them, so the rabbits could get some fresh air.....they are in the basement so I am sitting here, and look over, and one of our 4 week old baby bunnies is sitting on the floor! Right beside me, so I think I am losing my mind! Seeing rabbits in our living room. And our momma cat is sitting by the bunny, and she is meowing real quiet like. So I ran outside, and the babies cage door had a big gap in it, where I didn't get it closed, and the baby bunnies were outside, by the woods, and all over. Anyway, I found all the rest of the bunnies. So the momma cat had carried the baby bunny from the basement area all the way around the house up the deck stairs and in through the house to where I was! I probably wouldn't have gone back out by the rabbits for 4 hours or so. By then I imagine at least some of the bunnies would have been gone in the woods! The bunny didn't have a mark on her, her fur wasn't even damp, that must have been a long walk with a squirmy bunny in your mouth. The bunny was extremely shook up, when I put her back in her cage, she just sat in the corner for a couple of hours. Tooter brought a live wild baby bunny up to the house last year, but I wouldn't ever have thought she would have been smart enough to bring me a bunny to let me know they were in trouble. What a special cat she is! Tooter is a 6 year old cat, we adopted her from a no-kill shelter when she was a kitten, she had a litter of kittens 5 years ago, and then she was spayed. She also brings us dead ground moles and mice in the summer.
Hi! I have a cute story for everyone. I put a nestbox in
with a Holland doe due in 3 days. The next day there was
some bird nesting material in her box. I took it out, and
wrote this one off, thinking that the material was in the hay
when I put it in the box the night before. It had been dark, so
I could have easily missed it. The day before she was due,
I noticed that the hay in her box had been moved around, so
I figured she was going to deliver soon, and left her alone.
The day she was due, I reached into the box expecting to feel
a bunch of wriggling bunnies, as this doe hits her due date
right on the mark every time. What a surprise I got when I
reached in and felt an egg!!! Sure enough, those little birds had
flown back in her cage, after I had so savagely removed their
first nest, built another nest, and layed an egg!!
Just wanted to share my story about my egg layin' rabbit!!
