Kevin woke up unusually early the next morning. He walked down to the kitchen and found Amy there. She was drinking a glass of water. She waved hi. Kevin poured himself some coffee and sat at the table. Amy walked over to the piano in the living room and softly began playing "Heart and Soul". Kevin stood up and joined her on the bench. He played the harmony part until the song was over. He looked at Amy and said, "I didn't know you played."
"I try," she responded.
"Maybe you can help me then. I'm writing this song and I got stuck at this one spot," he said while playing the song. Amy made some suggestions and said that the song was beautiful. "You know you have gorgeous eyes," he said. She smiled but before she could respond Taylor, Brian, and Angela came downstairs ready to go to the park. They offered for Kevin to come, but he declined to stay on work on the song.
Taylor, Brian, Amy, and Angela walked down to the park. "Hey any of you want to go play some basketball?" asked Brian as he showed of his dribbling skills.
"Sure," Angela replied lacing up her shoes.
"Um, no thanks. Taylor and I are gonna take a jog," said Amy.
"Ok, I guess we'll see you later then," said Brian. Taylor and Amy waved as Angela gave them a nervous smile.
"Tay, you think anything will happen between those two?" asked Amy.
"I dunno, we'll see," replied Taylor with a smile.
When the four met up at the house, Brian looked like he was about to pass out. "Whew! Angela kicked my butt out there on the court."
Trying to hold in her laughter Taylor replied, "Oh yeah, Angela is the starting point guard at Pepperdine." With that, everyone started laughing hysterically.
After they had all showered and dressed, Brian and Kevin went downstairs to help Mr. and Mrs. Littrell set up the backyard for the BBQ. Taylor and Amy went into Angela's room. "So are you gonna tell us what happened or what?" asked Amy.
"Well, ok," said Angela as she shifted to face her friends. "He was amazing! We told each other jokes and about where we're from and family and stuff. He was charming, sweet, funny..." She flung herself back on the bed.
Meanwhile in the backyard...
"So Brian, how was the basketball game?" asked Kevin, grinning.
"It was cool. Angela's a really good player. She's a great person too," said Brian smiling to himself. "How about your early morning conversation with Amy?"
"It was good. She is so intelligent. We talked for a long time non-stop. I'm thinking about taking her out sometime."
"Hey... go for it," encouraged Brian.
Just then the doorbell rang and Nick walked in, "Hey guys, what's up?"
"Nothin' much," said Brian.
The girls came down and Howie, AJ, and their girlfriends, Diana and Keri, arrived. Everyone had a great time over hot dogs and hamburgers.
After dinner, everyone split into two teams. Brian, Taylor, AJ, Diana, and Amy on team one and Nick, Kevin, Howie, Keri, and Angela on team two. Brian got his football out and the teams prepared for a fun game of touch-football. When the score had reached 28-28, Brian said he'd be the receiver. He went for the pass and started running. Angela soon caught up to him, but pushed a little too hard. Brian went down and Angela went right down after him. Everyone, including the two klutzes, began to laugh. Brian stood up, brushed himself off, and proceeded to help up Angela. In a playful way, she grabbed his hand and yanked him down to the grass. She got up and walked into the house to wash her hands, laughing the whole way.
Taylor, wanting to get into the action, spotted a mud puddle just a few feet behind Nick. With a sinister grin on her face, she crept toward him and with one huge shove, down he went straight into the mud. He got up exclaiming, "You are sooooo dead!" With a shrill scream, Taylor took off running. But within seconds, Nick caught up to her and grabbed Taylor from behind so the mud smeared over her as well. Taylor squealed with laughter when he finally released her.
Angela, stepped out onto the back porch, took one look around and said, "I'm not even going to ask." The game resumed until it was too dark to see.
