Midterm Project Topic and Process:
The topic of my project will be composing a short piece of music using the instrument I've designed. The goal of this project will be recording the composed piece of music into the buffer and using Max/Msp to create modification such as delay or speed changes afterward. The problem I'm experiencing right now is trying to create my own instrument. I'm trying to synthesis the sound of a real popular instrument in Asia but i couldn't get the right tone by combining partials like one of the tutorials does. Currently I'm searching online for solution. 2/18/02 The research online has not been going well. I haven't found any sites giving instructions on synthesizing the specific instrument nor the behaviors of that instrument. I was hoping to find some infos on contructing the instrument by combing partials but was unsuccessful. Currently I would like to focusing on generating the short piece of music and the modifications. Also, the machines in the Mac Lab A are almost always occupied that I haven't got a chance to access them today. Hopefully I will be able to continue my work later tonight.
The stringtrial file is the trial implementation of the schematic diagram on textbook page 136, a diagram for a string-tone simulation. I tried to implement the diagram in Max/Msp but was not successfull. The incorrect implementation in Max/Msp did not generate any string-like tone but only a high-frequency simple tone. Kevmidpro file is the main patch for this midterm project and Kevfmtemp file is the subpatcher used in Kevmidpro.
