God's
Gift
Written

The
date was December 22, 1989
And a package arrived on our doorstep,
A beautiful little angel...
Dark haired with twinkling eyes,
Rosebud lips and petal soft skin.
Carefully wrapped in a soft, warm blanket,
Attached was a note that read:
Enclosed you will find a precious little girl,
An angel that will require much love and care.
Love her like you've loved no other,
Care for her like you've never cared before
And in return you will receive love
Like you've never experienced.
And it was simply signed...
Love,
God
This
gift was something we had longed for.
Something we were unable to produce on our own.
So we did just that...
Loved her like we had loved no other,
Cared for her like we had never cared before
And in return we received love
Like we had never experienced.
Day after day our little angel grew,
Becoming a happy, healthy toddler
That had a zest for life and a love for people,
Some may say a bit ornery
With a twinkle in her eyes
And a smile that said it all.
November
10, 1994 our angel became ill.
A malignant brain tumor the doctor said.
Her little body became a battleground,
Inflicted with surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.
But she was a brave little soldier.
She fought long, she fought hard,
Never complaining.
And we loved her like we had no other
And we cared for her like we'd never cared before.
And we continued to receive
A love like we never experienced.
As
our angel fought
She
taught us so much.
She taught us about strength.
She taught us about courage.
She taught us about compassion.
She taught us about unconditional love.
But her little body became tired
And she could fight no more.
On July 31, 2000 she was rewarded for her fight
And was taken home to heaven peacefully
As she slept.
Left
behind was a note that read
You
loved like no other.
You cared like never before
And you received a love like you never experienced,
A love that will go on forever
In your heart, in your mind, and in your soul.
And it was simply signed
Love,
God

A
butterfly lights beside us
Like a sunbeam
And for a brief moment
It's glory and beauty
Belong to our world.
But then it flies on again
And though we wish
It could have stayed,
We feel so lucky to have seen it.
